Default sea trout

I would almost guarantee you are talking about sea run cutthroat trout. They are on the west coast and come into the mouths of rivers in big schools. I have never fished for them myself but people love flyfishing for them when they get to the mouths of the rivers. Average size from what I know is about 16".

Default Sea trout

Sea trout is an anadromous trout very similar to an Atlantic Salmon and Brown Trout. This type of trout is native to Europe and difficult to catch. Most hook ups come at twilight or at night. Good fishery in Ireland and Scotland. There is also the spotted sea trout off the coast of eastern and south eastern united states (Texas, Florida, Carolinas). Not related to trout in any way. http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Galler...dSeatrout.html

I learned something new. The sea trout of Europe are actually anadromous Browns. http://www.letsflyfish.com/fish.htm

No need to go to Europe. Just head out to the West Coast. Qualicum beach on Vancouver Island has a nice population that can be fished by wading out from shore, or from a boat.

There is Seatrout (Europe), Speckled Seatrout (USA east coast), and Sea-run Cutthroat trout (BC),

I have fished the sea run cutts in B.C. with flyrod and spinning as well.

It is very enjoyable. Flood tide in the early evening in May/June as the sun is setting. Beautiful. Fish run to 5 lbs. most about 2 pounds.

I fished sea run brookies on the east coast. The run is usually in April. We hooked into some monsters last year on the Musquidobit river.

Use to fish sea run cutts on the Fraser River when I lived in Chilliwack, lots of spunk, fished with a 4 weight Sage used a black/green Doc Sprattley or a West Coast muddler. They tend to hold out in the back eddies where the water slows down and the food is abundant. All kinds of fun, usually hit them between runs of salmon on the Fraser and Vedder Rivers down by Hope. When the bite is on, they hit like crazy.
