Where to go fishing within a couple hours of Airdrie in a canoe??

I've been heading out to Dickson trout pond a lot. I have a 16 ft Coleman canoe and a little 30 lb trolling motor. Wondering if anyone can recommend anywhere to head to that I can catch something other than trout and I'm not going to have to deal with big lake conditions and boats, waves a ton of wind etc. I mainly just do catch and release so I don't really care what I'm catching or where. Just tired of 6-10 inch trout.

Put it in at Eagle ea. of Strathmore. Nice pike and walleye and it is now catch and release lake.

Just turn towards the lake at the nursery sign east of town. At the T launch is to your left.

Have fun and the best part it is only 45 minutes from Airdrie.

Never been there but have seen some pics of some nice fish from guys I know. Totally forgot about that lake. It's alright for the canoe? Not too big or windy and wavy?

If be a little careful on eagle in a canoe, while you probably won't have to worry about retards tipping you because they're wakeboarding without regard to anyone else on the lake the wind can pick up. With any of the eastern reservoirs if you're in a smaller boat you need to be prepared to bail if the wind picks up before it's too late. A couple of my friends got into trouble at eagle when the wind picked up and the motor didn't start, I'll just say they were praying pretty hard before they were beached on the opposite side of the lake than where they started.

Severn Dam S of Rosebud, or Michichi Dam N of Drumheller, both are stocked ponds.

Dalemead or the north side of chestermere.

Any place in eastern alberta "could" be sketchy with a canoe if the wind comes up. I would just get a free weather app that includes wind for speed and direction. I used it all the time, even fishing from shore its not fun when the wind is over 5 m/s.

I'm out on Eagle right now. Its beautiful. Just a light breeze. No waves. Slow going with this little motor. But not bad. Totally not equipped. Forgot I put all my walleye and pike gear in my son's tackle box and didn't bring it. But who knows. Maybe I'll get lucky.

In a canoe you are not going to get far from Airdrie!!! You will need lots of rain and run off to even make a short voyage.

Spent a couple hours on Eagle tonight. No luck. Crazy how shallow it gets hundreds of feet from shore. I'll have to go back again and give it another shot. It's slow going in the canoe. Wasn't sure where I should be fishing or what I should be using. Will have to spend some more time out there and figure it out.

X2 on burnstick. Wind tends to stay down. Yeah have an eye lakes are pretty low this time of year, ran my zodiac onto a submerged gravel bar right in the middle of ghost reservior today. Luckily got the motor out of the water in time. Not a good feeling

Stay on the west side and just outside the weeds which pretty well follow the bank all the way to the south end. After you go past the fence that runs into the lake just 100 meters or so east it drops to 12 to 14 FOW but running a bottom bouncer with a dewy at 1 to 1.2 mph outside the weed bed should give you lot's of fun.

Go to Birch Lake near Caroline. Brook trout.

Well protected from howling winds. Lots of trees. Shelter.
No big boats.

Last year my buddy, brother and I took my canoe on CVR on a nice summer day with no wind and it was great! Didn't see another boat all day just an older couple having a piknik on the bank, we were on north side of the lake and were hopping from spot to spot and fishing from shore and pulled in about 5-10 each within a couple of hours. We didn't try fishing from the canoe as non of us were really experienced with it but all in all good day.

My son and I made a random trip to Burnstick today. That lake is perfect. Small enough we could cover the whole thing and zip from side to side at trolling speed. Missed a few Walters I'm thinking. Lost something massive that I fought with for a good 5 mins and still couldn't get to the surface to get a glimpse. Landed a few small pike. One big enough to take home. And made the realization that next time I am bringing leaders. No idea how many fish lost right off the strike. Just gone. Hook and all. Was a great day. Definitely my new favourite place. Might check out the other small lakes nearby as well. Saw Birch was recommended. Thanks guys!
