Really? Geezz I hunted Spirit 26 days this year and did not see many moose at all. And I am not just saying that because I hunt there.
Id go South of GP before I went north, for moose anyway.

A few of the B&C boundries should be re-evaluated. Coastal BC Grizz should really be in the same category as an Alaskan brown bear, im sure there are other species as well that are cut off by a map line. I would do the moose in the southern zone myself as well as it is a shirusin my opinion, get a Canadian moose in Northern Alberta later as it is a lower priority to draw. Also have seen some great bulls in the south.

Default moose draw

I have for a long time just thought I would wait for a 400 tag after the Fire things changed a lot. Tags were cut back but we still saw some decent moose in 400 and 402, now there are more wolves more bears. With a 15 and studying the draw results I see that 15 may still not be enough priority as some of last years 15's never got drawn either. So a 16 or 17 maybe needed for these 2 local zones that I live in the middle of . So I'm 53, I started applying in 98. I was 38 then, I missed 1 year getting the draw in and now may get a tag as a 16 at 54/55 . To get another local moose draw, what will the next priority be 25 ?or goat lottery odds. I'll be 80 asking for help to pack out my 2nd. moose.... Wait I might need that help now.... LOL

Default Yeah

I hear Ya Mech, I am in the top priorities in a number of species and trying to spread them out, only using one per season. I realize I may never have the opportunity again to hunt some of the Blue Chip zones the way things are looking. These bad winters and increasing hunter numbers sure aren't helping.
I hope the best for you, and find that bull of a life time, I am in the same boat.

Default Moose

Thanks Earl, for me a good hunt is seeing some quality game, hunting good country, getting in the game bow hunting starts at a hundred yards then getting close, for me is where it at and if I can get a nice Bull with my Bow around 50" I'd be happy...

Im in the same boat as you but not nearly as much priority as you, I am a P8.
No doubt about it the 160's have some big moose. I travel alot of country and lately have beeen seeing some great bulls on the east bank of red deer lake area. Also some great moose in the lyodminster area.
Wmu 242 has a pile of moose as well and some big bulls in the ministik lake area. Alot of crown land available in the area as well... but is it worth burning a 15 on a area that can get drawn on a 5-6 priority....

wmu's 400-404 has some great bulls. i cannot remember the zone south west of nanton but i have seen some absolutely hogs in there just in my travels.

Nice to see some great advice given out here on Ao

With a high priority like that you may consider the Shiras moose down south. They are not as big as the other two species in Canada but a trophy non the less.

Wainwright would be a good option that others have mentioned.

There are great bull opportunities all over Alberta that don't require such wait times.

Good luck though!

Default Wainwright

Wainwright has not been producing the bulls it used to, a 50" bull is a real whopper nowadays.

Agree 100% also the chance of killing a bull with a bow is pretty hard there as the op wants to arrow one if possible.

Agreed and the seasons are now more limited in Wainwright, not quite the hunt it once was.

LC
The 3 day split seasons have really decreased the odds. I Also personally think they are handing out way to many tags as well for inside the base. Bigger zones surrounding the base have way less tags issued then what is issued for inside the base.I dont understand it. I cannot see that big of a jump in a moose pop from a stones throw away.

One thing quality has dropped in my personal experience there. I hope #'s dont take a turn for the worse like the deer have.

I wouldn't recommend this for a P15

Default moose draw

that short season makes wainwright a no go for me.If I can hunt with my bow I would prefer to take one that way that would be my first choice . Although knowing that a rifle hunt to finish would be nice as a plan B cause I can't imagine not tagging a bull after waiting 15 years..

If it is likely to be your only chance in the back yard I would stay there. Many nice Bulls are seen in 400 closest to Waterton. I bet you have lots of friends who would be willing to help you close that tag.

I'm same priority. Been trying to get a tag in 402. Looks like I may have a chance soon. The reasons I want a tag there .1 close to home. 2 the season is 3 months long 3 can hunt in calling season 4 have seen some big bulls there 5 I know the area well Good luck to ya

Ya I know the stats. I think I am a sixteen this year. By soon I meant a couple more years. No big rush for me it will likely be my first and last moose draw any way. If yer successful please post some pics. Good luck mech80

Not sure what you guys mean when you say prairie bulls and then throw in a 200 zone suggestion, those are the parkland zones,,,, At any rate for what it's worth,,, with the exception of the few 100 zones that fringe the 200 zones,,, the habitat and climate to produce monster bulls in many of the 100 zones is lacking. Sure there are moose on the prairies, but honest to goodness 50 plus inchers are going to be rare on the prairie.
