First time poster and you'r answering a two year-old question? Dang, must have had to dig for that one, or really be into 7mm.

Head shot only? Even if it was broad side at 100?

None of my business how you dispatch an animal , but in my experience an animal will bleed out better when lung shot. Only reason I mention it is because in my mind it can affect the flavor and quality of the meat. Just my 2 bits worth, obviously it is a humane kill which is the most important aspect.

Choices are all preference but if you only take brainshots why choose a
.300?

I am just interested, not criticizing.

Head shots are not either clean kills or clean misses as some people would have us believe. The brain is a small target, and a slight miss can result in a jaw damaged so the animal starves to death,or a slight miss can result in the loss of an eye, without being fatal.

But he bought a really accurate gun, doesnt that make up for everything??

I agree with Elkhunter 100%. If a person states they take head shots only, they most likely havent been in the hunting game that long, or havent seen the results of a poor shot. I have taken several head shots when the conditions are right and the distance warrants it, but a shot into the vitals at the shoulder is a much better bet for a lot of hunting situations.
