Best place to buy hunting boots
Hey guys, is there anywhere in Edmonton where a guy can buy a pair of mindels or Han wags? Not that picky on the brand exactly but I'm looking for that style of hiking boot.
If anyone can give me a lead on where to look that would be awesome, thanks.
Ps. I have been to cabelas and mec already but they don't have what I need

MEC has a great guaranty
As much as I hate to say it, MEC would be a smart choice.
If you're looking for Zam's, Scarpas, Lowa's. Back packer style boots.
I bought some Scarpas last year. Wore them outside for about 60Kms of combined hikes, then returned them. Said I didn't like the way the one boot fit.
No questions, no nothing, just go grab another pair.
Boots aren't like buying pants, sometimes you need to really wear them to understand how they fit.
To me the MEC customer service is tough to beat.
Love the Scarpas and will likely look at MEC next time due to service.
Cheers
John

We sell Lowa's here at MilArm. We stock the Tibet GTX and a number of other models as well.
MEC has a great selection, but they are fundamentally opposed to hunting. I cannot support that.

I can't say a bad thing about Lowa - I have the Tibet GTX myself and it is essentially the perfect backcountry hunting boot.
Hanwag are an offshoot of Lowa - although they no longer have any affiliation. I've been told that Hanwag quality, while good, are slightly below Lowa yet comparable in price.
Go with Lowa.

Hanwag boots have been fantastic for us working and playing in the mountains. I've used them for over 30 years. They are not an off shoot of Lowa. Hans Wagner started this company in Germany in 1921. They are sold through Track N Trail in Edmonton. This is a LOCALLY owned store that our rescue team has been dealing with for almost 30 years. I too struggle with supporting MEC as their philosophies are fundamentally different than mine.
For what it's worth here's a link to Hanwag and their History.

I wouldn't say that. They certainly don't cater to it (the wealthy Vancouver/Toronto gear head is their bread and butter) but every time I've mentioned "I'm looking for such and such for hunting" I never get au much as a raised eyebrow from any staff.

I just called their 800 number to hear it from them.
I was told they neither oppose or support hunting. Good enough for me.

There are stores that actually support hunting, so I support them, rather than a store that doesn't support hunting.
I have had great luck with Meindl, that I purchase at Cabelas.

And they also made it clear that they don't support hunting, while many other businesses actively do support hunting, so I will support those companies that support hunting.

Life's too short to make sure that all parties I deal with have the exact same values as me. Is your local liquor store pro hunting, your dentist, insurance, car dealer, tim hortons, etc?
And like I said before, I took the time to contact Mec and ask if they're against hunting. And they said no.
But I forgot to ask about Y2Y....
cheers
John
