Default Hamilton Area Gun Enthusiasts Handgun Ban Misunderstanding

Article from the Hamilton Spectator, Hamilton, ON.
Support for firearms owners maybe?

https://www.thespec.com/news-story/8...understanding/

Too bad AO doesn't have a politics & debate style forum.

That's a good article. Too bad the antis are too closed-minded to take the time to read things like that. The comment by one gun club member "Legal firearms owners could be called the safest people in society" is so true. Safety rules at large gun clubs (firing ranges) constantly ingrain a safety mentality. If you have a room/safe at home full of expensive firearms, and are familiar with all the hoops one must jump through to have them, would you really risk losing them and the right to use them by willfully (or unwittingly) breaking firearms laws?
The "divide" between legal firearm enthusiasts and the anti crowd exists because of ignorance and is purposely supported by the media and politicians who seek votes from those who favor ignorance.

The author had a lot correct, but fell flat on their face when they noted that a .50 BMG fires ‘seven-inch-long projectiles’. The entire cartridges are only 5.45” long, never mind the much-smaller projectiles they fire. It’s this tendency towards hyperbole that has journalists burying us by spreading erroneous information. If he thinks that 5.5” is 7” I have some news for his significant other!

Hamilton is not really a gun friendly city. Too close to Toronto.

It would have been nice if the author tried to include some statistics about how many firearm related deaths are from organized crime. It was nice though that the article noted the correct percentage of crime firearms that were actually sourced from legal owners, the vast majority of which would have been stolen in home burglaries. The lies that the Liberal politicians and police officials have been spreading to that effect shows that they’re not afraid to lie & cheat to achieve their goals. The question one asks when people are willing to lie about and massively exaggerate about a problem, what is their real motivation? If the issue is in reality not what they are claiming it to be, then why are they so hell-bent on achieving a ban if honest, accurate statistics prove them to be a bunch of panicking chicken-littles?

All the worlds religions (which were precursors of government) diligently relied on ignorance to promote their existence and power. Still works today (with a LOT of people). Seems like some just need a cause to follow blindly, "because it's right", you know. Easier than using your brain.

I emailed the author with a compliment, my noted correction about the .50 BMG cartridge and its projectile and some ideas for further investigation, he was kind enough to reply this morning.
