Has anyone been up to winefred this winter or even in the past? I'm going on a two day trip march 2-3.
I'm quite familiar with the lake during the summer, but this will be my first time there on the ice.
Any potentially dangerous ice areas that need to be watched out for?
Any tips on where to fish? Only info I've seen on AO suggests banana island which in my opinion isn't even a top 5 spot for summer fishing. Maybe it's better in winter.
Any tips on what to use since there is a bait ban? Will probably try various spoons and rapalas.
There is a great area that we would go to that my buddy had on his GPS, and there was a good sized hump and it was about 10' deep.
A good depth map would show it.
All we used were different sizes of Len Thompson "5 of diamonds" and we caught all species with it, even whitefish.

Winefred lake outfitters operates year round and have a few cabins. Road to winefred outfitters isn't an issue. Personally I'll just pay the money to go there or the lodge (summertime only) than ever attempt the road into the public "campground" again.

Does anyone know approximately how much snow is in the Conklin area? Wondering if we need sleds for our winefred trip. Thanks

I would take a sled if you need to get around the lake because of a giant heave across a huge portion . There isn’t to much snow but if you get over flow when you go your gong to be hooped. The fishing was really slow also. I did up a quick sketch of the heave. I just got back today
