I've used IMR4831 in my 7mag's with 120's to 160's for years with great results.

Been using IMR4350 for years....Nosler Partitions,Sierra game kings,TTSX,Hornady SSTs and Interlocks.
140 to 162gr bullets.
Im happy with how it works.
Finding powder....and bullets is the problem.
Pretty much just using Hornady SSt and Interlocks now and Viht N160 is one of powders(along with N165) they recommend.
Viht seems a bit more available so Ill be grabbing some when I see it.
Beggars cant be choosers nowadays.

If you can find them, my go to powders for the 7mmremmag, are R22, and IMR 7828. Powders and bullets are in very short supply, but 7mmremmag brass is pretty much extict in Canada right now.

My friend and his son hunt with 7-RM's using Varget and Barnes TSX or TTSX. They hit deer to moose just fine out to 300 yards. I'm sure Hornady GMX will work just as well.

Varget would be way down on the list of good powders for a 7 RM, as it’s far too fast for best velocities with mid weight or heavier bullets. However, if it’s all you have I guess it could be made to work. It’s not a good plan to use fast powders in magnum cases.

I would trade the Varget for something in the 4831/7828/rl26 league.

They might as well shoot a 280rem, or even a 7mm-08 if they are going to limit themselves to 280rem, or 7mm-08 velocities.

On the other hand, after a friend spent days trying to find a suitable powder in stock, to load for his 7mmremmag, I found him an 8lb jug of R-23. We should be able to come up with a good load for the 145LRX or the 140TTSX with the R-23.

Beggars can't be choosers these days. My friend did get a nice buck last year and he had the head mounted.

And how did you score 8# of RL23? That's like a unicorn these days.

Both my sons use 7mm-08. We're using TTSX + Varget for hunting this year. I'm sure other powders may be more accurate but Varget is the least temperature sensitive powder we have.

Varget is a great choice for 7mm-08, but not for 7RM

A simple google search found it, while trying to find R-22. I was skeptical about them actually having it, but a phone call verified it, and my friend gave them a credit card number, and he was in his truck and headed straight there. As far as temperature sensitivity goes, many people put far to much emphasis on it. A difference of 100fps means very little at the distances that most hunters shoot at animals.

Good Point.
Just fir the heck of it , I found a couple of acceptable alternatives to one of the
most popular powders.. . H 4350. Here are a couple that can replace 4350 quite readily..but may be nearly as difficult to find.

All loaded to the same pressure.. 50,000 psi. Compliments of QL

6.5-06 147 ELD-X

CHGE. MV. CASE FILL

IMR Enduron 4451. 47.5 2936 91.4 %

Ramshot Hunter. 57.7 2906. 90.4

H 4350. 50.2 2858 92.3

IMR 4350. 50.2. 2862. 90.8

Note that the Enduron is very temp stable and appears to be somewhat more readily available.
