Default Toews is taking his sweet time it seems

Hope we hear a response from the Justice Minister on the QC Superior Court decision regarding the federal long gun data.

In my view the two big issues here are the privacy act, and the federal jurisdiction over firearms.

The idea that private information given to one agency would be turned over to another without the express permission of those who gave it should be of concern to all Canadians, not just gun owners.

An extremely bad precident to set in my view. As far as I'm concerned the Privacy Commissioner should be fired over this, as she has not opposed it.

he ordered the federal government to give all records on quebec-owned rifles and shotguns in the registry to the provincial government within 30 days.

The conservatives have been adamant about scrapping the long-gun registry and destroying the existing data.

they say any province which wants its own registry is welcome to start from scratch.
yep

There seems to be a lot of disagreement on this one, but are they not only getting access to data on Quebec owners?

That's my understanding of it. What concerns me are the privacy implications for all Canadans, as well as the fact that the unelected court officicials are trying to subvert the elected ones.

Judges should be interpreting the law, not making it up as they feel.
