Actually going with a Wilson barrel, as they have been working well for me.As for who is putting it together, I will wait until I receive the rifle first. All that I will say for now, is that he built my most accurate hunting rifle to date.

My 7mm STW will be:
- Remington 700 SS action (taken from a 7mm rem mag)
- Boyd's laminate thumbhole stock
- Jewell trigger
- Bushnell 4.5-30x50 tactical scope
- Shilen 9 twist barrel
The action will be trued and the stock will be bedded. The trigger will be set at 2 lbs.
Does it need a muzzle brake?

Because the extreme noise increase isn' t worth it for a hunting rifle.Use a quality stock, with a Decellerator, and a slightly heavier contour barrel.

The barrel will be a Shilen #7 HV. It is a heavy barrel.

I put a Ron Smith stainless 18 - 9 gain twist on my Sako 75 7 STW a few years ago . I recently worked up a load for 180 VLD's and it shot a .560 after about 600 rounds thru it since new. I'm not positive at this point, but I think the gain twist adds longevity to barrel life and they definately have no negatives. I'm more than pleased with the 7 STW in all categories.

When you get an stw to go 5000 rounds and not loose any accuracy, you let me know.
We can ask our resident 7stw expert ( elkhunter 11) how many rounds he gets before they start to loose accuracy.
My 7rem mag barrels really start to suffer around 1500-1700 rounds. I have used all types and makes of barrels from RKS gain twist to McGowan to Shilen. None last any longer than the rest. But somehow, magically, if you add 20+ grains of powder you are going to tripple or even quadruple the barrel life?
The guy may have 5000+ rounds down the barrel, but I guarantee it has lost a lot of its prime accuracy. However it may still be a usefull hunting rifle.

I am careful to not overheat the barrels on my rifles, and I have replaced two 7mmstw barrels, due to a degradation in accuracy, both at around 1500 rounds. Both barrels were stainless aftermarket barrels.

You missed my point entirely.
I wasn't defending or condemning the 5000 round claim, merely pointing out the ridiculousness of the "pics or it didn't happen" remark. I'm beginning to understand now why that was lost on you though.
