Default Husky Oil Expansions

Good for Sask.

A year after it committed $1 billion to build three steam-assisted heavy oil extraction plants in western Saskatchewan, one of Canada’s largest energy companies says its board has approved two more of the facilities at a combined cost of $700 million.

It's too bad that Alberta has an anti oil government, or projects like that could be coming to Alberta instead.

Alberta will become a ghost town unless something can happen to turn things around..it's been way to long of a down turn in the economy, I hope it happens sooner than later..people are still suffering here!

Husky's been tapping the Waseca formation for 70 years they estimate only 10% of the oil has been recovered and with the SAGD projects no doubt they will reduce the costly conventional SWB activity.
Its a good move however the end is near for single wells that support more jobs than the steam projects.

It is still work for Alberta in some ways. Warwick Structures out of Calgary is doing all the buildings and we are doing the majority of the H&V work out of Edmonton. Good jobs for us, each new one is a copy of the last one.

Husky loves these small cookie cutter plants in Saskatchewan for a variety of reasons. One big one is the environmental rules are a lot more lax. They are able to pay lower wages due to location, and also its easier to get the oil to Lloyd. I’d hardly blame Notley, this has been their plan since Gosh first took over. Peabody is just keeping the ball rolling.

And as for the emissions part I’m proud we have some of the strictest in the world!

About a year or two ago, Husky said there were 17 more of these steam floods coming up. Since then there has been Rush Lake 2, and two more at Spruce Lake and one at Dee Valley.

A couple of years ago, they were going to do one a year, since then the economy has slowed down enough, I guess they won't be over stretching the manpower and equipment supplies.

The speculation is Husky will sell off their regular field wells and concentrate on these steam floods.
