Winchester XP3 vs AccuBond
Any thoughts on which is the superior Winchester ammunition, the XP3 or the AccuBond?

They shoot similar but thanks. I was more curious in what other hunters are experiencing in performance, i.e how the bullets hold together, penetration ect at this time.

I haven't used the xp3 on game, but I have used the Barnes MRX which is similar in construction, and I have used the Accubond. The Accubond penetrates like a partition, and retains 60% to 70% of it's weight, while the MRX retains virtually 100% of it's weight, and penetrates deeper as well.

I haven't shot any game with the xp3 (yet) but I have shot a bunch into dry newspaper along side the tsx, accubond, partition and a few others. They are pretty similar to the performace of a tipped tsx, except they don't keep a long shank like the tsx/ttsx, they end up looking very similar to the accubond, a bit more like a ball shape rather than a long shank. The petal still shear off like a tsx at high velocity, and the shank bulges out and the shape ends up looking more like a ball. The accubonds kept a little more of a straight shank for me, and in newspaper the penetration was pretty similar.
I think the difference between them would be kind of be splitting hairs. Like elkhunter11 I would go with the one that shoots better in my rifle. My 300wsm happens to like the tsx the best, and shoots the accubond a little better than the xp3. Of course thats comparing handloaded accubonds against factory loaded xp3's.

These pics are not really on your topic but you might be interested anyway.
These are left to right - 165gr tsx (300wsm), 130tsx(300wsm), 130tsx (300rum), 165tsx 500 yards 300wsm, and a 180gr hornady sst All fired into dry newspaper at 25 yards except the one noted.
These were fired from my 325 wsm into dry newspaper at 25 yards. The accubond penetrated an inch deeper at this range. At 200 yards the 180 tsx penetrated 2 1/2 inches deeper. (can't find the pic of the 200 yard bullets)

Both are great bullets. I tried the AB's when first release in 2004 in the factory WS ammo in 2 calibers 270WSM and 300WM. Great. Use the AB's for reloads now. Wished to try the XP3's for reloads but its only in factory ammo.
My AB's performance at the range and on big game is second to none. Was going to try the TSX's but the results with the AB's I traded off the TSX's for more AB's. The TTSX would be nice too.
Nothing wrong with both in the WS ammo. NExt would be Federal in the AB's and TSX/TTSX's.
IMO stick to 180gr bullets for the 300WSM.

A good 165gr premium such as a TTSX will do just fine.

Yes the 165gr TTSX or Accubond will do the job too. Have one buddy who reloads the 165gr TSX for his Tikka T3 300WSM and loves it.
Just IMO the 180gr bullets are the bullets of choice for the 300WM / WSM.
