fish cop at nsr easter sunday
went to nsr at hermitage on easter sunday. figured i'd try it out after seeing all the success folks have been having there. walked in from the trout pond and was fishing for about an hour when a fish and wildlife officer approached and checked out the hook i was using and made sure i had new licsense. he was freindly and polite and told me that most people fished a little further downstream. walked over to the outflow (never knew it was there) and set up again. after f/w checked out a few other anglers he came back to me and said that the old fellow had told him that i had caught(i wish) a walleye and kept it. he went through my backpack and then appolagised for wasting my time. i asked the old fellow wtf and he said it must have been someone else. still had a nice afternoon even though skunked again but I'LL BE BACK.

Nice to hear the Fish Cops making their rounds and doing what they need to do.

Nice to see you had a good encounter with the F&W folks.....too bad there isn't anything they can do to someone making false claim to an offense....

I am glad to see fish and wildlife are increasing patrols in the river valley.

Maybe the cop has to have a reason otherwise you can claim unreasonable search, like seeing you do it, or getting a report. Seems an easy solution, say someone else said you did something, then they have a legal reason to search you.
Someone wasn't telling the truth, the old guy or the cop. Who do you suspect, the guy who's rummaging through your stuff, or the guy in the same situation as you? F&W cops are likely graded on their performance according to how many poachers they've caught, so there's an incentive.
Assuming it was the cop, then this kind of behavior is a form of oppression, and is the start of a slippery slope, if this happens to me I'll be sure to go with the cop to the guy and ask him why he said that, I'd soon find out if it was a dirty cop or a dirty individual.

No issue, F&W did his job, apologised. Old guy said it was someone else, likely didn't want to take the blame.

sounds to me like co's should be handing out more of these tickets if people want to lie about others to make themselves feel better and waste the co's time.
i would also like to see more of the first offence (34) (1) for all the blow hards that think that giving a co a hard time is their right.

OMG! Really. Dirty Cop? WOW! I would never have suspected that. Thanks for the heads up. He seemed like such a nice guy too. Well you never know eh? Thanks again.
BTW. what would you recommend as a course of action if he wants to look at my bag with no warrant?

I would bet the cop was looking for open booze of some kind. After all who would keep fish in there backpack, and who would stick around after keeping an illegal fish and follow the cop to the best place to fish. Only a completely dumb person would do that. But I guess there is the tv show, worlds dumbest criminals.
