Bass Pro - South Edm Common
Sounds like it should be a go. Unsure to when construction would start/end. Hopefully they do some market research for this neck of the woods. Flipping sticks, Texas rig's, and tube jigs won't make the cut up here. Been to several Bass Pro's in the states and could not find a spoon anywhere on the shelves. Should add a little more competition and hopefully help to reduce the prices a little.

Theres been a few rumors since the one was built in Balzac .I think Edmonton would be a good place , Defenetly give wholesale a wake up call , I will still be a fan of the fishin hole and fishing centre , but Im sure for bulk items as thats how I buy my jigs maybe alot cheeper at bass pro shop.

If BassPro is coming to Edmonton I hope they will be able to bring down prices. I visited the Winnipeg SIR/Cabelas last month and was very disappointed with the prices there.
I spoke with one of the guys in the fishing section and he said their prices were higher than the States because of tariffs/border shenanigans. As an example, he mentioned a particular rod'n'reel combo that was $99 in the US catalogue. He said the cheapest they(the Canadian Cabelas) could sell it for was $160.
As much as I'd like to hope competition bring down prices, I'll believe it when I see it.

I would say that prices would be lower at BPS then any other local store.
Even if the prices are the same , or higher , they'll still have me in their store because they'll have 10 times the product than the nearest competitor carries.
I'm tired of not being able to find stuff at the '' you know where'' store in Edm.
Not sure if the AB. stores would mirror the US stores ....but if they do.....
Been to the BPS store in Vegas 3 times..... and still haven't seen everything.

BPS , Cabelas etc...
There is no doubt that the amount of inventory available to canadians
will increase but the chance of prices matching american prices
is very slim .... In fact I think Cabela canadas prices are higher than
SIR's were and thats going some ... Cost more to do bussiness here
higher rents , salaries , taxes .....and volumes are lower .
If you shop retail outlets Cabelas has the highest prices
Sportsmans warehouse is cheaper .... On line sportsmans guide is cheapest ...
Now WSS for those of you who want to pick up a spool of mono line ,
a roll of barbwire , and a 100 lb. bag of SheepSh-- Manure ,is the place to go ...
All I know is that those guys that owned WSS live a charmed existence ...Talk about getting into the lifeboat at the last minute ...
Service will still win out ....

OK guys...this is the latest scoop. Cabelas was or is trying to break into the Canadian market....BUT...The plans were to open a mega store in Montreal. I was in Montreal last week and read an article in the paper that Cabelas will no longer be opening their store in Montreal. Apparently because of the taxes and tarrifs to bring their products to Canada and aswell having to put all the packaging in english and french would be to costly especially items that are sold under the cabelas brand. This makes total sense since the race crazed city of Montreal is trying so hard to get a NASCAR race and Bass Pro works very closely with NASCAR. So therefore Bass Pro which already has a store in Toronto has taken over the spot north of Montreal and is scheduled to open in spring 09. So my assumption would be get ready for a Bass Pro opening soon near you.

The old SIR in winnipeg is a Cabela's now. Cabela's is IN canada. Im sure wityh time theyll move to western Canada. Kind of surprised that bass pro shops came here buit saying that Cabela's is going to want to compete the canadian market and with in 2 years theyll be here.

Bass Pro in Edmonton ? doubt it
Unless they move to selling welding supplies and sweat pants I can't see them putting a store in The Chuck. Stay where the $$$ are in Cowtown.

Yes our local Safeway store has had them for well over a year. Maybe close to two years now.
