Default Storing your Kayaks

So I was wondering what everyone does for storage on their kayaks? Do you store them indoors, outdoors, hanging from garage roof, wrapped up in the backyard, etc. I just found out mine wont fit in the rafters in the garage so now I have to think of an alternative till spring. Any suggestions?

Mine sit outside tipped upside down on one of the SeaDoo lifts for the winter. Mind you they're just the plain jane Costco units, not a fancy schmancy Old Town or something that would actually make me ponder if I should store it inside...before promptly tossing it out on the lift for the winter with the others.

Some others may be able to provide a good argument why a big chunk of plastic needs to be kept warm all winter, but mine seem to work fine every Spring.

We use these outside with a cheap CT tarp covering them.

My 2 are stored on a set of sawhorses, open side down. They sit that way year round.

One hangs from the roof upside down and the other sits upside down on some tires

Hung up in the shed for winter storage.
And everything open for airflow too.....don’t need no stank in it come spring.

So next question, I have been told not to use ratchet straps when tieing down the kayak when transporting as the can cause damage to the boat but I assume that is if you over tighten. What is everyone using for straps when transporting?

The best straps or the straps you should be using will be the Cambuckle straps with rubber padding around it. This is for the sides of the kayak.

Yakima, NRS and Malone all make them.

As for the bow and stern the best straps will be rope style ratchet tie downs

Avoid purchasing Cambuckles with hooks on the end like the ones I am showing below. They straps are short and your kayak will not feel secure.
