I just started a thread on this. Seen a sweet little chiappa double badger at Canadian tire tonight. There was also a plastic savage 410/22 there too. $400ish

+1 for the savage 42, I'm running one on my trapline and absolutely love it.

I picked mine up used for $250 off Canadian Gun Nuts, i had also seen them in our local Wholesale sports for around $400

PRO'S:
I can beat the crap out of it and it docent hurt my feelings, its a single shot with a hammer style receiver (pretty safe) and it will shoot the magpies off my bait with the cheap .410 ammo.
Accuracy is decent out to about 50 yards with the factory open sites.

CON'S
Ugly
Plastic sights
Sellector lever on hammer for either upper barrel or lower.
Hard to eject spent case/ hull

My .2 cents

Default or

Get a older model when Savage actually regulated their barrels.Expect to pay about $400-$500 for a VG specimen though. The shotgun barrel is tight choked and throws chicken killing patterns out to 30 yards!Say no to plastic on a gun.........Harold

I've got a .22, 20 gauge Savage. Much more versatile than the .410 and ammunition cost is about the same.

The best thing I did to my savage 42 was installing a ghost ring sight from skinner sights in Montana. The factory is terrible.
