Default Hunting Elk in 527

Hi. New to this Form. This is the first year I have pulled a Cow elk tag for 527. I have heard rumors that there are a lot of farmers in the Deadwood area who are having issues this year and I am wondering if anyone knows any names or numbers. I am a respectful hunter, and will be on foot access and will contact the land owner if i down something to make arrangements with them so I am able to load the animal out. I appreciate any information anyone can provide me with.

I would contact fish & wildlife in the area and ask them if they have heard of problem elk. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

Other than that I'd say go burn some boot leather and knock on doors. Good luck. Happy hunting.

Default We heard same thing 4 years ago

From a local resident. 9 hour drive and my son and i had tough time getting any access where the elk were. We could see them but not hunt them. Woman who owned the land where the elk were was actually an anti hunter and apparently worked for fish and wildlife in Manning! Wasted pretty much a week.

Default Not too hard if you do some advance homework

County/MD maps to indicate ownership. IHunter app for grazing lease contact info. Fish and Wildlife as indicated. They may know of farmers with problem elk in haystacks and grainpiles. Also ask around at UFA and grain elevators. We had no problems getting access last time going undersubscribed elk.
