So what your saying is that companies like Remington should really be using a floating bolt head.

Tolerances still matter with a floating bolt head. If all those surfaces aren't parallel it's bad. It just makes manufacturing really easy when you only have one bolt body.

Don't forget that Sauer has now entered that $1000-ish class with the model 100 (that uses M700 mounts) and Tikka has 'added value' with the similarly priced T3x.

The world is awash with affordable polymer detach mag, generic push feed actions with trigger saftey's that have decent adjustable triggers and plastic stocks (or basic walnut/beech for a couple hundred more). Its got to be a c market driven largely by advertising, endorsements or focusing on inconsequential price differences, as opposed to difference in rifle quality, which across these common makes/models has got to be getting close to identical (Hotellings Law?)

I would love to see the Bergara wood stocks.

So I went down to Flys ect today to have a look at this rifle. For all intense purposes it is a Remington clone, the differences being a side bolt release, mildly coned bolt face, and model 70 push feed style extractor. The targets I was shown were in that 1 1/4" range so no doubt would get under an inch with load development. The bolt to body fit seemed to have somewhat excessive clearance for my liking, and really rattles around. The synthetic stock was somewhere between a Rem Tupperware and tikka style as far as feel/quality. The stock has moulded in pillars. The bolt knob appeared to be removable. The trigger broke clean with no real creep. The bottom metal floor plate looks like crap (in my opinion) but the trigger guard looks really nice and well finished. The magazine follower was of the Rem milled style but appears to be cast. The overall metal finish on the gun was nice. The inside of the barrel had a near mirror finish.
Sounded like about $1200 for the synthetic and $1400 for the walnut.
For my money I would rather have a Remington CDL.

Thanks for the real world review. Thoughts on the bolt now that you have handled one?

It feels sloppy to me, lots of play between the bolt body and race way.

There's a good write-up on them in the latest American Rifleman, .....explains why they went the way they did on some parts.

This is an old thread, but I'm just curious is anyone on here has shot one of these yet? I'm mulling around the purchase of a bolt action, and I'll admit, based entirely on looks, this caught my eye.

Did Brent mention how many Bergara rifles he has fired to 1000 yards?

I have three buddy's that own them 1 B14 and 2 hmr. All three are chambered in 6.5 creed. all shoot amazingly tight groups at 100 yds. Only had the privilege of shooting one past 100 400yd 5 shot groups were just over an inch off the bench. I was impressed to say the least. Theres a bergara FB page full of all the pros and cons. Too spendy for my wallet but the ones I have shot were impressive rifles. Fit and finish was only so-so but man they sure shoot

They say they may be bringing out lefties in 2010. They said the same thing in 04 about 06. Until they actually do it I have no interest. If they do, I will try one for sure.

Bought one in 308. For the price you can buy a lot less expensive rifle that will shoot just as good or better. For the price, they are just not worth it. Sorry, just my opinion

Does any dealer in Alberta have a HMR or a HMR Pro in stock?

I got out of hunting 10 years ago... sold everything! Now my 9 year old says he wants to take up shooting and hunting.

I’d like to pick up a Bergara and see how it feels.
I was always a Sako guy before

Thx, having never shot a 6.5 I don’t know but I feel like it might be too much for a first gun?

I keep flipping in my head back to a 257 Weatherby or maybe a 25:06?

A 6.5cm wint be more than either of the two you listed. But the options for the factory ammo at decent prices will give the 6.5 an advantage in my opinion. A 6.5 has less recoil than the 308's and that's kind of a break point for some of the people that I've let shoot my rifles. Obviously there are a few other factors involved.

I bought a few different boxes of hornady ammo since it’s so cheap and one obviously is a winner

3 shots on that target to the right

Highest one was the first out of the barrel

Then I moved it down and a 3 shot group

Adjusted to the left and voila .13” group

Is your rifle in 6.5CM or something else Mark?

It’s a creedmoor
I got it for my nephew. Figure it would be a good rifle for him to learn with since recoil is next to zero. Mostly due to the weight of the rifle
The fit and finish of the rifle is very nice
