Default Muskrats on large sloughs

I know a resident trapper needs written approval for coyotes etc but do you need it for large bodies of water where there is public access? I’m thinking somewhere like frank lake for muskrats as an example.

It seems like different districts have different requirements. I trap muskrats in a large slew surrounded by numerous landowners and I have trapped beaver on Lac Ste Anne. My district office told me that as long as I have permission from a landowner to access the water body I was good to go with no signed permission slip required. I’ve heard that some district offices want you to have a permission slip signed by a Bio. Best to see what your own district office wants done.

Trap a number of large bodies of water in the Red Deer area and I’m required to get my permission form signed by local biologist. Been this way for years.

Ok good to know. I will track down the bio for the area I want to do this spring. Ever have any issues from them getting the permission slip?

No problem getting them to sign permission form. Even had them suggest other sites to try.
