Default Question regarding limits.

So i was just thinkin, if you have caught your limit for the day, are you still allowed to continue fishing? When im at a lake that i will be keeping fish, but i want to stay out all day, i tend to not keep my last fish till the end of the day cause i thought if you had your limit you have to pack it up, cause i know some CO's may think if you catch a bigger one then one you already have kept you may keep the bigger one and throw the smaller one back even though its already dead., and im more then certain there are idiots out there that do that.

Default Possession

Page 17 of regs States , a fish is considered to be in possession
when not returned to the water immediately .

But you are right , there then begins the moral dilemna
You have your limit of pike 63cm plusses and you catch one
on a tipup and the hook is down near the wazoo ,
( cut the line lose the hook ) give him the ben casey
and he's bleeding like a stuck pig and will not swim
down the hole . So here is a fish that will not make it..
Thats why barbless and single shank hooks ( i have gone away
from trebles on jack rigs ) are your best bet . You might lose a few
but hey I've gotten more mileage out of the escapees
than the wallhangers .
You dont want to ingest too much of that jack juice anyway
you start to get all slimey inside ...

Thumbs up Fish all day but No Culling...

Releasing Live Fish
Sportfishing is so popular that many waters cannot produce enough fish to satisfy harvest demands. Releasing fish is part of the solution. If the fish you catch is of a legal species and legal size, immediately decide to release it or keep it as part of your day’s limit. A fish is considered retained (kept) when it is not immediately returned to the waters from which it was taken.

Fish all day but No Culling...

You cannot throw a smaller one back to keep the bigger one.

Never Cull Fish
“Culling” is staying within the catch limit for a species by releasing fish from a stringer or other holding device when a larger fish is caught. Fish that have been held on a stringer or in a tub usually die if released because of stress and because of damage to their gills, fins and scales.

Shoot me but if there's still a lot of time left in the day after I catch my limit, I'll do C&R. Nothing in the Regs says you must walk away. Here's an equally important question. How many people will go catch and keep another limit if they already have fish from a previous trip?

Think of all the places you are allowed to fish, but the limit is 0!!!

Do you not fish there in case the hook gets down too deep in the fish and the fish dies???
Do you drive by the lake/stream because you aren't allowed to have any in possesion???

It is a good question in theory, but look at the reality of the situation. If you know you are not keeping the fish and will be releasing them back to the water, fish on!!!

If a guy does enough fishing I really don't see the point to keeping more than enough for a meal or two.

Would you call those who strictly catch and release unethical? Same type of fishing IMO. just fishing to fish, not to eat.

I'm not sure about the rest of the province, however I know for the National Parks this is not allowed. I know a guy who got tagged by a CO for "fishing with his limit."

I can see getting ticketed for trying to catch fish after you've got you're limit on a one species lake but most lakes have more than one species of fish in it. If there is only one species in the lake ticket the fisherman if more than one species he shouldn't be ticketed as he may be targeting the other species now.

The old "I know a guy who" story......

There are lots of places in the park that are catch and release, I guess if you are fishing in those waters you would be fishing within your limit as well before you even catch a fish? Same thing isn't it?

This approch is actually not legal

If an officer sees you personnally catch and keep 6 fish when the limit is 5 you will get a ticket no matter what the other people who are with you have. Same goes for hunting game limits.
