Default Pillar”ed and glass bedded a savage .22

It’s my first attempt, a few air pockets in the glass bedding, the pillars were done with a brass hex nut nipple and installed with JB weld as the stock where the action screws go in on the savage is weak. The glass bedding was bedrock brand. Id do a few things different but all in all it has a good decent footprint to sit on. Just waiting on the 6x18x40 to arrive and then see how i did. Barrel is free floated, no great accomplishment as it was free floated before, but at least its still that way lol as i did remove a bit of wood after i pillared it for the glass. I thought it more precise to pillar first then bed to keep everything as close to original height as possible in the stock. If everything is good i will do the BSEV next.

Well, I think that you've done rather well. I mirror nearly all that you've done. I too use JB weld to set my pillars. And my prefered bedding compound is Bedrock also. I make my custom pillars on a lathe and cut an anchoring groove in the aluminum or brass and one in the stock. I too set my pillars first and bed after they have set to the right elevation. I drill the ID of my pillars about 1/16" bigger than the action bolt. I then wrap electrical tape around the action bolts so that they fit dead center of the pillar ID and do not contact the ID. Then, I set up the pillars for glueing. Good job.

Did you shoot for accuracy first prior to bedding? I just bought a savage varmint laminate and a laminate thumbhole (wife didn't know which she wanted so I bought one of each) in .22 lr. Haven't ever bedded a 22 and would want to check accuracy first before I try to bed.

Very interested in this as I have the same rifle and have been wanting to tackle a bedding job on it. What would you do differently the next go around? And as has been previously asked did you test accuracy before and after?
