Default Fishing the bow

I’ve got to go to Claresholm tomorrow for 1/2hr worth of work and I was going to bring my son along for the ride. To make it fun for him I was going to stop somewhere along the bow and let him try for a trout out of the river. I’m hoping someone can refer me to a section of the river, doesn’t matter if it’s east, west, or right in the city where we can cast for about an hour on our way home. I’m only bringing spinning gear, not exactly sure if we’ll use spoons or spinners, but it’s just going to be a one time stop as we never go stream fishing outside the NSR or the northern section of the Pembina.

I know it’s a long shot and don’t need anyone’s honey hole, just a spot where we can stop for a few casts on the way home and maybe hook a trout.

Thanks

Highway 2 bridge south of the city is always nice and on the way. Pretty much anywhere you see the river you can stop and will be as good as any for just a short fish

Head to fish creek creek park off Bow bottom Trail.

There are a few parking lots with easy access.

Thanks guys.

I just need some access where I’m not going to be on private land or trespassing.

Oh ya, one more thing. I can’t do too much hiking as my knee is still pretty buggered up. Preferably no too much steep slopes, going up isn’t too bad but I have a hard time bending my leg to go down stairs or slopes.

Anywhere within 45min east or west of Calgary would be good.

I'm not trying to be a Negative Nellie here, but be careful out there, the Bow must be running pretty close to peak runoff at this time of year. When the river is high and fast, try fishing right close to the bank.

For ease of access on your way back home, you might try stopping at Policeman's Flats off of Dubow Road.

Fish Creek Park is another popular foot access area. Good luck and be careful!

I second policeman’s.

There’s a decent pool just upstream of the lot. It gets fished a lot but I’ve always had success there.

Thanks again guys, policeman’s flats is a place I was looking at on google, and the hwy 24 bridge is another one.

I’ll post up some pics if we actually do end up hooking one.

I tried out by McKinnon flats, had one hit but no fish. Pretty nice spot though.
