Default Who else loves Golden Retreivers?

Just getting melancholy after putting our last old girl away at 13.5 years. We've had Goldens for over 35 years now, always had 2 because of where we have lived (coyotes, coyotes, etc.).

I've found they are the most dedicated, loving, easy to take care of dog ever! Anyone else care to share about their Golden Retreivers?

I bred them for nearly 4 years.
Great dogs.

Default Goldens

Another fan here!
Had my first one 20 years ago. Fantastic hunter and retriever, of everything from upland, migratory, muskrats and even one beaver! Cried like a little girl when I had to put her down at 10 yrs old, due to cancer.
Tried a black lab in between, but the chemistry wasn't there for me.
My next golden, which is currently 9 going on 10, was a fantastic family dog for my four kids, but a bit of a late bloomer in the field. She is currently a phenomenal upland dog. Works real close, and easy to read. The perfect "old man's dog" I am told! The age is starting to show a bit, but usually after a good day out in the field, don't we all show our age a bit? We hunt pheasant on local shooting grounds permits for eight months of the year, so she literally gets in hundreds of retrieves a year! Her only downside, is that she refuses to retrieve to anyone but me! Makes for a damn heavy game pouch some days!
My newest golden (#3) is a holy terror on the grandkids, but at just over a year (retrieving chukars at eight weeks) has hundreds of retrieves under her belt. Still a bit tough to read, but we're starting to understand each other. I thank WWBirds for hooking me up with my pup's breeders. His is the brother to my female, and I know he is having the same great luck with his dog as I am experiencing.
My raving is getting a bit long-winded, but I have had nothing but good luck with my Golden experience to date, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for that "all-around" dog.

Default 37 years since I got my first

have had and still have blacks and goldens. Bred blacks yellows and goldens for over 30 years but we always have at least one and usually more goldens around. As Jim says pretty high field trial breeding on this last go round so he still often wears a choker and check cord or leash when small children are around for the first 5 - 10 minutes but has been retrieving since he was not much longer than the bird trap and is over 100 chukars and pheasants in his first year.

Every dog that has lived here has a wooden name plate on their kennel door. Corner fence brace is covered in name plates of our past golden black and yellow friends since 1980.

I can't think of a better breed of dog.
