Default Downrigger attachment

I have a Scotty 1050 depthmaster and a Scotty 12 inch pedestal I am trying to mount o nmy boat deck. Should I try to bolt the attachment plate to the deck with a locking nut (if I can get under it)? Any experience and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I bolted the adapter plate for my pedestals to the seat (plywood) and haven't had any issues. I used washers and Nylock nuts. I removed the seat for access. Check your brake so the downriggers will let cable out if you snag it up in something.

Yes to nylon nut and use stainless. How thick is your deck? Do you have access under or not?

Pm me if you have issues

I also used 1/8" x 7" x 7" backing plate for my mounts. Need to have access to the underside though. Pair of 2106B's(Just added the second from Cabelas Sale last week).

I bolted down my base plate to the deck and used the 12" riser. Never had an issue running 10-15lb balls in some heavier chop.

I'd use a backing plate if you are not mounting to a solid surface. In the case of my lund, I had a thick aluminum skin with a heavy marine plywood on that deck so not backing plate was required as it was very solid.

Thanks for the info guys. My set up is (hopefully) going to be very similar to EZM's. I have a G3 Guide V177 and am mounting on deck with a vinyl covering. I do not have access to the underside. I am thinking of using toggle bolts.

Thoughts and comments are welcome.
