Default Small Town Bars

A post in another thread got me thinking about some of the great small town bars there are in this province. Anyone got a favourite? Some funny stories?

Some of my favourites are:

Manyberries...great food plus the old folks singles night twice a year is pretty exciting

Mirror....Have a beer with the deer! Great perogies too!

Formost...Definitely good people watching

Pure Country Saloon in Crowsnest Pass...best wings anywhere

Patrica...great steak pit

Bassano....great steak pit

Water Valley Saloon....good cast of local characters.

Caroline...Stagcoach I think....good burgers.

I love small town bars. any small town bar. the smaller the town the better. I hate going to the bigger towns and city bars where the music is so loud you gotta use sign language and its so crowded it takes 10 mins to get from where you are to the biffy!

I went to pick up a buddy from hanna a few years back hes a red neck i am not, but anyways they thought i was lost, i was well dressed and just wanted some pizza, they asked if i wanted a map, that was the scariest place ever, interesting people the stare was worst then a stare like the normal stare people give you, like a death stare, i was shaking it reminded be of small towns in the U.S.A i been on road trips, highlight of my life for sure, something i will never forget, i ran out of there so fast.

Talking

Got to put a vote in for the Commercial Hotel in Alliance. From the bath towel covered tables to the perma-stained ALCB glasses, it always brings a smile to my face.

The saloon in niton junction can be pretty fun on saturday nights..... also the gainford hotel has some prime examples of taxidermy gone wrong Took my wife there for a beer and it freaked her out pretty good. Also the buck lake bar when the strippers stopped in for a performance that was true talent.

Back in the day, the Nojack Hotel, wild and wooly place for sure. Darn near first bar if not first bar to have strippers in Alberta. Nojack burger and beer, can feel my arteries clogging up just thinking about it.

Gainford, the taxidermy is old, no doubt about it.

Niton saloon, been there done that.

Sunnybrook Hotel, summertime and motorbikes. Don't get much better than that!

Not Ab, but the Rolla Saloon 55.898455,-120.140975
is perhaps the coolest bar I've ever been in, it's been there for about 100 years and is full of museum quality rocks, bones, historical items

My wife, back before I met her, ran the bar at the Red Earth Inn in the mid 90's (her family owned the Inn). She has one or two rig worker stories......

Go to Manyberries, AB if you want to see Taxidermy. Great small town bar. Also like the bar in Robb. Hell I like all small town bars, always a story.

Default Tomohawk

The dog gone saloon in Tomohawk is always a good time, plus they have strippers on Thursday nights. I have a few stories but I better not go into detail here.

Funny thing on our way out she told my buddy he should stick around for awhile! first one to the hotel room he was and we laughed!

Granted it's not Alberta, but if any of you ever get up to Dawson (in the Yukon), you have to check out the Pit.

You'll feel drunk in there wayyyyy before you actually are.

And, I second Diver with the Longview Hotel. Fun

Did the woodwork at the LONGBRANCH in Caroline, about 20 years ago. Closed last time I asked, but if you look carefully, you can find sectioned 9 mm bullets in the rough boards, result of the band saw used to cut the lumber. Somebody evidently used the trees for target practice.

I have to add the big town of Tilley to the list, friday nights after work is worth the price of admission. Last time in, we drank a ton and had some decent food and a heck of allot of entertainment with a female bar brawl, still talk about it til this day. Best $10 for a nights entertainment spent LOL.

I always make a point during pheasant season to step in, the hotel part itself is suspect LOL!!!!

Dont know if its even still open
Silver dollar saloon in Sweetgrass Montana
Food was aweful but the trashy women and bar fights made it first class

The bar in Babb was the only bar i have ever been scared for my life....but after numerous shots of whiskey it was way too much fun. We spent the night in Browning, even got a free ride in a the back of a disco limousine.

Default Bars

Had good times at many of Alberta's small town bars.

Grassy Lake hotel before it closed was good.
Marwayne
Hanna
Manyberries
Worsley
Foremost
Burdet
Niton Junction
Bow Island
Milk River

I'm sure if I thought about it longer there would be a few more. Almost everyone I can remember was good. Sweetgrass use to have a good one. I heard it closed but I'm not sure. We would go there for Turkey gizzards & a cold one then grab some beer and chew at the store and head back north.
