Default Closest shot!

we all see big rave reviews of long shots of over 400 + yard up tp 1000+ yards! What has been the closest shots some have taken! my closest was a mulie doe at about 5 yards! I was using a 30-30 with a side mount 4x scope! I was sitting there having a break at a fence crossing and 8 does came galloping along, by the time I got rested on the fencepost I had deer jummping all over the place I put the open sights on her and boom! I shook like a leaf for a half hour before I could clean her!

11 paces...with my .54 Lyman Great Plains Rifle. The mulie doe staggered, took 2 steps and folded. The 230gr round ball went clean through her.

last day of the season quite a few years ago , i was in a homemade tree stand with an antlerless tag when i see a doe coming about 10 min before dark . Cant get a decent shot so finally it stopps right under my standand and i stick the rifle down between my feet and pull the trigger . 12 feet. Just happened to be a button buck ,not too much meat on my last miniute tag but it was tasty.

Bull moose I called that was horny as hell came out of bush at 12 yards.

Ditto on shaking... I was sounding way to sexy, and glad only that second shot planted him.

About 3 yards on a small buck that I had called in on thanksgiving of 2009! I was in my stand and set out some scent before I climbed up! Gave a quick rattle sequence about an hour into my sit. He came running in and went to go past my stand, 2 quick doe bleats brought him back around, and he stopped right there in front of me! Poor bugger never saw the arrow coming!

10 yards on a deer (long bow), and IIRC about 6 feet on a bear (SXS12).

Killed my very first big game animal out of a tree stand at about 8 yards it was a small whitetail buck, shot a bull moose that I called in at about 7 yards both with the bow. Shot my ram at approximately 10 yards as I got in front of him and he walk rite to me.

I was sitting on the edge of a powerline when a 52" bull moose walked through the bush straight at me, I heard him crashing through the trees for at least 100 yards. I waited for him to step out into the clearing and dropped him at no more than 15 yards with my 7-08

Black bear at 1.5 meters. However long the gun is from my shoulder to him, plus an additional foot or so! Quite the experience !

Less than a foot on my first whitey with a bow. I'm sure the nock was still on the string, while the broadhead was entering the body........ Ironically he ran the furthest 400 yards or so.

One time I was sheephunting in late October it was cold. We had lead the horses in on foot packed so we could bring some extra horse feed. So I was riding one of the pack horse the next day bare back and the darn thing buck me off and torn my gun sling swivel out of the stock of the rifle and knocked my scope out when I hit the ground. I found about an hour later as I had found a ram I liked so I tried about half dozen shots and couldn"t even come close. So I followed the ram up the mountain as crested the top as two rams were looking down the valley about 200 yards infront of me. One was a good one and a easy full curl. So I crawled through the shale and got to within 20 feet and looked down the barrel of the gun and shot. The bullet hit him and he got up so I shot again looking down the barrel and hit him in the jaw. But the first shot did the job as he feel over a few seconds later.

This would never be me. I am too law abiding.

To paraphrase hearsay from numerous farmers and ranchers:

"His head was so buried into the barley through that little hole in the granary that I had to make a two inch heart shot."

Of course such statements like: "The most difficult part was pulling out that head and horns through that little hole in the granary" are also hearsay and conjecture.

well I leaned over the side of my stand and shot a mule buck when he was sniffing the tree stand steps. I also shot a whitetail buck from 4-5 yards on the ground.

Black Bear at about 3 feet in a standing oat field, he had moved 20 yards from where I thought he was. Had a cow moose last week run by at arms length. Stepped off the trail and hoped for the best!

Second closest was about 8 feet on a whitetail buck. It was on a drive in Ontario and I could hear the doggers getting closer behind a ridge. I was the last man on the watch line with a lake on my left. All of a sudden a doe followed closely by a forkhorn buck busted over the ridge in front of me - coming fast! I didn't have a good angle from my watch location, and I knew they were committed to the track they were on, so I walked out onto the trail to intercept them. The doe blasted by me so close I could have reached out and touched her. The buck came up the little rise out of the ditch beside the trail onto the trial and met a 1 oz Remington slug dead centre on the chest. I can still see him flip over backwards back into the ditch beside the trail!

Closest was on a spring turkey tom. After a long morning with no action I was preparing to leave, gave a couple more yelps on the box call, looked around, and saw him come out of the bush about 100 yards away, on my wrong side. I figured I'd have a moment to stealthily turn 90 degrees to meet him when he went through a small swale about 40 yards out. But he came through so fast I didn't have time to move. He came right up to the fence beside me, about 1 meter away. If I moved I was busted, but I figured I'd have time to wheel around and maybe get a shot if I surprised him. So I spun around, the bird gave one squawk and started to run but got hung a bit in the long grass. So I shot, in the adrenaline rush forgetting that he was way too close, ha, ha ! Put the shot right through his tail-feathers. At that he went airborne, I racked a second shell in and fired when he he was about 5 feet in the air and 20 feet downrange. He dropped like a stone - dead. Funny thing was, when I cleaned that bird I couldn't find a pellet in his body! Maybe he had a heart attack! Or just a few pellets in the head.
