Default Deer tongue

Hadn't cooked a deer tongue before, but decided to try it out tonight, and simmered up the tongue from yesterday's muley buck. I was very surprised at how mild the flavour was! It was very nice -- I'll definitely be repeating with deer in the future.

I always save the tongues. Braise and then slice cold in sandwiches with lots of mustard onions and pickles.

That sounds good, too. I simmered it slowly in water with a packet of french onion soup mix, some pepper, rosemary and garlic; and an onion and a couple of carrots. Mmmmm.

I found it better fried after boiling.
Of course everything fried in butter is better.

My Mom use to cook them in a cast iron fry pan, hated it, she also cooked chicken feet when she made soup, hated them, too. That was about 60 years ago, don't think anything would change today.
