Never have liked the loser point. Kinda like a participation trophy. You showed up, lost, but here's your point

Man, you Oilers fans crack me up. Been trolling the Flames thread all season about Bettman points, but I make one teeny tiny comment and heads explode. Thanks for that.

Me either, have now watched too many 3rd periods with both teams trying not to lose.

It is true. Not too many years ago the only thing that got the Oil close to 500 hockey was Bettman points. … sorta like this year with the flames

It does nothing for the game ,it’s a false economy. There are no loser points in the playoffs and really that’s what the regular season is supposed to be preparing you for

Ouch. Not even a Bettman. Damn shame.

Hawks are an under-rated powerhouse tho. Even with Toews and Kane in their late 40s and a goalie playing his second NHL game.

Nothing I say or do can make them win or lose. They are a dumpster fire on the last car of a slow moving train wreck. I have no hand in it, and I'm certainly not entertained watching it. I had some expectations for a better year, but thankfully I can stop wasting that energy now.

My son is a big Blackhawks fan (I still don't know how I failed so miserably as a parent).

He'll be cheering for my Oilers tomorrow night, he's 100% on board with "Suck Hard for Bedard".

I was at a Tenille Townes concert last night so didn't see the game, saw the score this morning, wow must have been a no show by the flamers, even TC is writing them off oh well hope you boy's softened them up a bit for us tomorrow night but by the look of the score the hawks never even broke a sweat.

Kostin is a beauty. Exactly the character the Oil lost when Kas got moved that was desperately needed. Little bit of sandpaper, glue guy in the room, and for the fans. Just have to resign him in off season.

Tie games were an issue back in the day. Teams would go through the motions during the later stages of games, happy to get one point. Fans wanted to see a winner declared.

The solution the NHL went with (Bettman point) made things worse. There was a Sports Illustrated article about how the extra point affected the way teams played. It showed that in the latter stages of the 3rd period, teams played a less aggressive style of hockey; less shots on goal, less high danger attempts etc. In games against teams from other divisions, the drop in the level of play was more pronounced; the theory being that games outside of your division had less impact on the standings so teams were more likely to be satisfied with getting a single point and then going to overtime.

Some people have the opinion that all games should be worth 3 points ... 3 points for a regulation win and a 2-1 point split for games decided in OT or shootout. This would give teams more incentive to win in regulation time.

Oilers interested in Gavrikov as per Friedman. https://thehockeywriters.com/oilers-...yman-gavrikov/

I'd be worried of the cost to acquire him at the deadline. Certainly not worth more then Lagesson and 2 picks for Kulak at last year's deadline. But I have a feeling the price on D will be driven up this deadline if Karlsson and Chychrun are both made available.

Great game, solid in bother ends of the ice, a few mental mistakes that ended up costing them but overall a good game. The pacific is up for grabs, 5 teams within 6 points heading down the stretch after the all star break interesting hockey coming up

It was great to see 91 score a goal. Should give him some confidence in his wrist. I’m hoping he puts up 30-35 points for the remaining games.

I was thinking how many points 97 would have if 91 was able to play the last 50 games. My guess is he’d be in the 120 points neighbourhood.

Looking forward to the next 32 games.

Well, it pains me to say it, but my opinion of the Oilers went up just a smidgen.

Good on McDavid and the Oilers organization!

I'm worried about this extended break. The boys have been rolling lately so maybe it comes at a tough time. But will also give guys some rest, particularly Skinner being his most hockey ever played in one season, the new baby, and now getting sick. Will need a big post All-Star break out of him. Can be max 4 back of LA with 3 games in hand when they're back to it. I like where they are with scheduling too. They have (I think) the 3rd easiest schedule in the league for the remainder of the season. A 100% healthy Kane and get yourself a top 4 dman, and some depth scoring at the deadline and I think we could be looking at another run. Going to be fun.

I also took a video of the Oilers intro and taking the ice from some pretty decent seats at last Wednesday's game against Columbus for any of you guys who don't get to go to games to see what the experience is like!

Welp, LA gets the loser point. 3 back of them but 3 games in hand. Better then 4 back I guess.
