Ryan Murray
Oil, just signed Ryan Murray to a one year deal for 750,000.
Seems like good value.

Seems like a cheap deal, I'm not sure if I see the "value".
He'll have played on four teams in the last four years, didn't dress for the playoffs last season (maybe he was hurt), has only played 168 games of 290 in the last four seasons, etc. I'm doubtful he'll even slot in the team's top 8.
Guess I don't see the value.

I suppose that's worth something, guess we have different expectations of "great" though.
Gagner, with 31 pts last year on a terrible team, signed for 1 year at $750k is great value!

Oilers have had Gagner twice, I guess they thought differently

Any youngsters stand out?
Haven’t heard anything yet about these prospects.

Seems odd that Broberg is on there, has almost two dozen games in the NHL and I believe is being penciled in as a regular for the big club. In contrast I don't think any of the others have any games in the NHL and none are being penciled in.

I think the Oilers were interested in Gagner, but they had a bigger need on defense.
Murray was out with a broken hand for a lot of last year. It seems like a low risk bet to me for a 6-7 d man. He was playing 14:05 a night for the Avalanche last year before getting injured.

The Oilers’ roster will be headlined by the team’s most recent four first-round picks, Philip Broberg, Dylan Holloway, Xavier Bourgault, and Reid Schaefer, along with other notable prospects, such as Carter Savoie and Matvei Petrov. The Oilers will also flesh out their roster with a handful of undrafted free agents who have been invited to the team’s Rookie Camp.
“Edmonton’s Rookies play the Winnipeg Jets Rookies on Friday, Sept. 16 at 5 pm MT, the Calgary Flames Rookies on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 8:30 pm MT, and the Vancouver Canucks Rookies on Monday, Sept. 19 at 3:30 pm MT. According to the Oilers, the games will be streamed live on EdmontonOilers.com and on the team’s social media channels.
The entire roster can be viewed below…

Dylan's Dad is a friend of mine. He was actually drafted by the Canucks back in the day. Very intense dude and twice as tough. Hoping Dylan has the same intensity. Will be a force.

Curious to see how they play. He seems like a solid built guy. Had wrist surgery so hopefully nagging problems.

I was impressed with the rookies’ play. Looks like some talent in the hopper. Good to see.
I say slap a fourth line together of fast hungry rookie forwards. Give them a couple solid D-men to back stop them… with a willingness to shoot.
Speed would keep opponents on their toes.

Oilers rookies dominated the Flames rookies yesterday.
Great to see the young talent actually proving some skill.

I don’t discount this for a second. Even if you hate the Tkachuk’s - even the old man could be dirty - them boys are intense. Of course they learned that from their dad. Hope Dylan Holloway is a chip off the old lock, but better.

Good payday for Mackinnon. He was deserving of a big raise!
Sure makes the top two players in the league look like a real bargain now anyways. Can't imagine what Dri and McDavid will be looking for in their next contracts.
Along with the leading goal scorer in the playoffs signed for just over $5 mil (well done Ken), Oilers are sitting pretty good

It makes me very worried. Unless the cap limit jump up team may get gutted to cover the bump McDavid will demand. Then the broader scope issue is this bump will bump up all other players expectations and generally mean we can’t afford to pay all the players we want.
Could be troubling next few years.

It will expensive resigning the top 2 players in the league, but I the team won't be gutted. One of those 2 will bring in a kings ransom, other will be affordable if just have to pay one.
Guessing Ken is already planning

It may be interesting to see what we can get for McDavid. Maybe we bundle Mike Smith, I heard he was training hard, and Connor for something that will win a cup.

I expect both players to show more class that J.Geadreau so I think Ken will have enough heads up

It seems most cups are won with a superstar and lots of quality players behind them. If we can’t sign McDavid and Drai then even getting some good players may not be enough.
It could be the start of a decade of being a bridesmaid and never a bride.
Let’s hope we can fight hard and win the cup this year. Assuming the Flames don’t win it. In which case can the Oilers do it in 2024?

The oilers really seem to get in your head. You remind me of another poster who spent a lot of time on the oilers thread, albeit you seem a little more subdued. Possible you would have gotten along well, but he was punted at the same time you joined the forum....

Be honest with me now, McDavid's got a career ending injury, you're starting a new league cause the NHL disbanded, you have the first pick to start your new team and you're picking......Draisaitl?
