Hey you farmers
Just wondering how haying is going and how wet it is in your area.
Last year I was done baling my first cut on July 11th. I just started cutting yesterday and am seeing water laying where I’ve never seen water before.
Since the beginning of May we have had over 14” of rain.
I can never remember a July as wet as this.

I haven’t seen any haying going on around here. All of the low laying areas in the crop fields are filled with water too. Really wet and soggy.

No one has done anything yet in my area, everyone wants to be going but we are all a little scared to start cutting, weather doesn’t seem to be settled just yet. More rain forecast before the weekend. It sounds like not far to the north and northwest people are dried out, so can’t really complain I guess, but it’s going to be a long haying season

Severe draught in the South, I cut enough for my horses and didn't bother with anything else. If we got an inch since March, I would be surprized.
Went out to Elkwater yesterday evening and many are laying down crops and baling for green feed.

couple early birds knocked a few acres down in my area. hutterites are also making swaths but I don't think this is going to end well for any of them.

Do you guys ever catch a break?
I thought about asking if or when you've ever had a " Perfect Season" ,
But it seems to me, ( now this coming from a born and raised city boy ) ,
that for the last couple decades ( lets say ... " This Millenium " )
I should downgrade this question to ... " Great Season " ...or in some places .... " Good Season "
I don't know if it " Global Warming " , or whatever one would call it , but I sure have noticed the weather patterns certainly arent as ...stable or realiable as they once seemed to be
All in All , how is the province doing as a whole ?

buddy claims we're looking at 200. a bale, this Fall. Way too expensive for cattle producers.

If I could get about 10 days of good weather I would probably be done. The problem is now if you don’t cut you probably won’t get a decent second cut. I hate leaving second cut till mid September because by then it’s usually pretty tough to get dry.

Deleted my original reply. I'll re-word it. We sell a few hundred million dollars of product to farmers, every year, at my company. This is an extremely slow year for us at least. 50% reduction maybe. Which is an indicator that it's not going well for the farmers...

Hay
20" of rain here this month. Hay is growing but will go to seed soon. Way too wet to get out into the fields yet. See rain every second afternoon still.

My crop of tall buttercup is doing fine in the fetid smelling swamp that is my land. It squishes under your feet as you walk.

We’re between Rocky and Eckville; just finished our silage tonight. Tore up the fields pretty bad but at least it’s done. The plan is to start knocking down the rest of the hay on Friday or Saturday and bale it. Hopefully we get some decent weather or it will get chopped into silage also.

We haul a lot of farm parts usually 75 to 100 parts orders per day. We’re down to 15-30 a day. Usually at haying time through harvest it crazy. Stupid slow right now!

The crops around here look great. There are a few low spots where barley is drowning.

Normally I finish first cut alfalfa about July 10. We havent cut an acre yet. Big hay crop out there, was chest high but now is lodged and laying down. We need a few drying days just to get into the field. Its going to be one cut this year, so waiting for a window of dryer weather, if it ever comes.
Some of our grass fields where we cut and bale wild hay are under water, doubtful we can even get into some of those spots, late August at the earliest.
Another challenging year, with some patience we'll get there.
