Default Review of my first year fishing :)

I can't believe it's already been over a year since I started fishing...and badgering you fine people for advice. It has been an interesting year for sure. Some good, some bad. Please excuse the crappy phone pics and crop jobs. You'll recognize some of these from my albums and others will wonder why I made an album for such unimpressive fish but I'm proud of em.

So let's talk about the last year or so. It started out with me deciding to start fishing because I was going through a painful time in my personal life and needed something new to focus on. I thought I'd give fishing a shot. I had no idea how hard it actually is and I had no one to teach me so a lot of it was me embarrassing myself....badly.

After going out time and time again, I wasn't catching anything and wanted to give up. Geezle was the guy who got me hooked on fishing so if you hate me, blame him. After catching absolutely nothing, he gave me advice on how to catch pike. The next day I went out and landed my first fish!

I was so scared I'd kill it that I didn't even hold it for a picture. Just snapped one on my phone, jumped in the water and set it free. Then I did a weird chicken dance thing, not realizing there were people watching me until I heard the laughter.

All last summer was a bit of a gongshow for me. I fell out of my little inflatable boat in front of a group of people at the dock. Got my hand hooked so many times I spent more time unhooking myself than fishing. Managed to almost hit a lady on a bridge as my lure screamed past her face and got tangled in the bridge. She was kind enough to help me retrieve it....while laughing the whole time. LOL!

Saw this sign when I went on one of my many trout fishing excursions...that all failed. I got out of my vehicle, saw that sign, said "Nope" and got back in my car and left. We all know that was the right decision for me.

I was fortunate to get to go ice fishing with a group of great guys from the board (Jack &7, New Hunter Okotoks, Tacklerunner and Kevinhits). That was a fun experience but not one I was any good at. No fish and a few wipeouts, car stuck in a snowbank, etc, but it was still cool to try it out for the first time!

I was at the point where I was frustrated and still catching very few fish. With help from some really patient people (Geezle, Winger7mm, Chubdarter, Wayne Christie, TyreeUM, and many others) things started to turn around and I was finally getting it. It finally became fun and something I think I've developed an unsettling addiction to.

Fishing with Wayne Christie, Hacman, Ogre and Karen, Dago and Pam. Got to see my first sturgeon. I wasn't the one who caught it but it was so awesome just seeing one.

Through them I discovered the joys of river fishing. It's muddy, the water levels can be dangerous and the fish fight like they're auditioning for shark week. LOL! Sometimes they get muddy but mostly just I do. I felt the need to get proper footwear for this endeavor. When my friend saw my sweet boots he said, "They make those in adult sizes? Why? Just why?" Hahah! Why indeed.

My first sucker..

Mooneye (I think. I originally thought he was a chub)

My first shorthead redhorse. He looked ashamed to be caught by me. lol!

My biggest Goldeye.

Then my new fishing rod arrived and it was time to try for trout and walleye...two fish I couldn't catch no matter how many times I tried all year. The rod helped a lot but so did going to no fail places like PCR and Enchant.

Now I know some of you are going to call photoshop on this huge rainbow but rest assured, he was that massive. The second one was also legit.

And finally...Walleye...

I hope this wasn't too painful to read. Thank you to everyone for your help! It's been a great year so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what's ahead.

Well I would have to say that is an "impressive" first year !

Looking at the list of names of board members you fished with I would say you met some of the best it has to offer.

Thanks for sharing your pics and story.

Dodger.

WHAT

No pictures of the new rod Looks like it was a fun year, it sometimes makes you reflect back wondering what the heck a person was thinking, spending countless hours getting nothing but when you do get one makes it all worth it.

Very good year for you I'd say! Great job landing lots of different species. Love the one with you wearing a glove while handling the walleye. I am like that with pike lol! I hope next summer we can meet up and go on a fishing adventure together. I think we would have a blast

Great report!

As far as I can tell you didn't need to use the "3 wolf moon" and it's mystical powers to catch fish!

I'm still a fan of your ice fishing picture

Nice work documenting your season.

Have you thought about taking up hunting?
If you have the resolve to commit to starting a new hobby and are successful at it, then you might have good luck at hunting.
Lucky lady, you got to go fishing on your birthday.
I say it's hard to beat that
Btw, no one will be making ill comments about people's pictures from this point on, so we will all be enjoying more visuals from this point on.

Awesome report OGWP! Your attitude and energy towards becoming a better fisherwoman is pretty refreshing to read and a nice change of pace from some of the ho-hum postings from the old farts on here (no offence to the old farts ) Keep up the good work!
