I don't mind shooting a few but I like to wait till the little buggers have had a chance to pop some babies first. Most of the fields where we used to shoot a couple hundred every year have been cleaned out by guys shooting them too early and now there's nothing left. You can go now out and cover 30sq miles and your lucky to see 20 of them, and that is in good gopher country south of Red Deer.( I can see a draw coming soon.)

Most all gophers shot at this time of the year are Males.Male gophers emerge from hibernation first in order to establish their territories before the female gophers wake up.

if they're gophers and they're breathing, they'd better be huntin' a hole!

Went on drive around Iricana on Sunday and saw a couple up on the snow. I think they have had enough of winter too. A late snow fall makes for some incredable l gopher hunting. Brown on white. The other amazing thing is that you would never believe how many gophers you don't see under normal snowless conditions. Was down south of Lethbridge years ago in early April and they had a good late dump of snow. Gophers as far as the eye could see. Wish I had a rifle.

Oh, I'm sorry! I'll do it properly next time.
I saw everyone else's posts and I thought, "Holy crap! These folks are dealing with some major infestations!"

Now it makes sense... Oops!

Default They're out there!!!

Buddy and I found a good field yesterday. Kept score with a golf counter. Chalk another 81 up on the total.

399+ 81 =480
