Just opened this and hoped for a better outcome. Not much can be said to the family to take away from the loss of a loved one. All the best to the family at this time.

RIP and condolences to his friends and family. Taken far too soon, but he was doing what he loved. It's a risk we all take, but never think it will actually happen.

Sad news but he was living and took the time in his life to do what he loved and he probably wouldnt have missed the chance to go be where he waited all summer to be.

This is horrible. I'm definitely sending some thoughts and prayers to his family. The Alberta government doesn't care to keep back country users safe. I'm no biologist but when I count more grizz than marmots in the mountains something has to be done to manage current densities.

Default Sad news for hunting community this morning

Really very sorry to hear of the outcome to this, please be careful out there this season gents, carry bear spray and hunt with a partner if you can.

You know, having lived in Africa for 10 years and read and watched all the BS bravado about how dangerous it is to hunt "dangerous game" in Africa, the continent nowhere near has as many hunter deaths due to animal encounters as we do right in our own back yard, make no bones about it boys, when we hunt in the Alberta foothills and rockies, we are hunting in one of the World's most challenging and dangerous environments.

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Rick Cross. I only knew the man by reputation as an highly accomplished hunter and outdoorsman. He joins a lot of great hunters spirits in a better place.

Surprise bear encounters are the hazard we have the least control over. I'm sure Rick understood that risk. No one hunts the mountains for meat - it's too difficult and success is so rare. I'll take a few moments this fall and remember the other hunters and mountain travellers who couldn't make it home. You can feel them up there, spirits lingering where their souls will always belong.

I hope it's not too soon to make a little light, but if that was me, my first sadness would be for my family, my second would be that now everyone knows where I hunt sheep.

RIP Rick. Thoughts and prayers with friends and family.
