Default Eskimo Blades

What kind of life has everyone been getting out of their Eskimo Auger blades? I have the 8" shark and have had to replace mine after about 2-300 hundred holes twice now. I always keep the blade guard on when not in use and try to maintain them the best I can.

I sharpen mine on average every 100 holes but I'm OCD when it comes to keeping any blade sharp. I have been using the same set now for 5 years. Same with my hand auger but thats almost 20 years old but I did replace the blades once because the rubber strap broke on the cover and the blades slammed into my tailgate about 15 years ago.

Take them to a sharp shop and get them done. Way cheaper than new. Also the amount of holes can depend on quality of ice. Get ice with sand and grit blown in and it is hard on blades. If you fish near a gravel road that is or was bare and wind has blown grit early in the year you will fight it all year long. Happened to us one year. Keep a couple sets going so always have a good backup.

Foothills Sharpening on the edge of Okotoks. We have been taking our eskimo blades there for years. I have sent others there with their Jiffy blades too. They do a good job and sometimes while you wait if lucky.
