Well they do open the valve and release water thru the pipe in order to keep an allowable flow down the Little Bow River, Federal Goernment Regs, most of these fish will be ok.

Well that's makes more sense. I'm sure the odd one gets through but not the masses of eyes you automatically envision when you think of 30,000 fish.

Hahaha. That's funny. If he's been there since December or better yet if the 1% of pike have had a feeding frenzy since then and get returned, better watch out for Wanye when it opens.

i dont believe there is a valve....ive never seen water not flowing thru the pipe in 40 years.
The concern was 30,000 fish in the small pool at the base of the spillway , starving.
The spillway drop has some depth but like most spillways there is a debris shoal that is very skinny water and doesnt allow fish movement until water levels rise

Chubbdarter, in a res, like Travers, in the fall the water in the res. is lowered to winter levels, below the level of the gates to prevent any damage to the headworks, that is why there is a pipe with a valve at a lower level on the top side in the res. to release water if needed.
I started fishing that end of Travers in 1960, have caught lots of white fish at the bottom of the spillway over the years, these fish have made thru the winter, they will make to spring breakup.

it only in place for the reasons you first stated...or there would be a pipe at all control gates.....the river must flow.

I appreciate what your saying....as i have but will not fish the spillway anymore. My home is very close to this place. If you think 30,000 fish can survive in that pool i'll trust your wisdom.

so this doesnt go sideways....thats all i have to say

im happy something is being done
