Default Badger report

A few trips to Badger this week resulted in some surprises. Are there walleye in Badger? Yes, yes there are.

Day 1 in the south was filled with 30+ pike in the 4-6 pound class and at sunset this 23" walleye came screaming in from the deep to smash a glow jig tipped with sucker belly.

Day 2 in the North was more of the same. Lots of 4-6 pound pike (we stopped counting after 20). At about 9 am this beauty came skulking along the bottom and took a glow spoon tipped with sucker belly.

All in all it was a fun 2 days. We saw a few whites on camera and lost 2, red and black wire worms got the most interest but action was slow. We Had one pike that had to be pushing 20 pounds try and eat the Camera, it was massive. No Ling ( our primary Target)

My new personal best for Badger Walleye (24"). I've caught a few walleye in this lake but never this size.

If your taking the kids out for the Family day weekend and are looking for some steady catch and release action I'd give Badger a consideration. The ice is thick enough to drive on 20+ inches and jigging action in 5-12 FOW produced more fish than deadstick presentations. Good Luck!

Note: all fish were released as per regs http://www.albertafishingguide.com/l...dger-reservoir so you have an opportunity to catch these great fish.

Badger has always been a hot or cold lake for me, some days you run from flag to flag and others you have a nap and nothing changes.

Nice walleye!! As a side note; is the annual ice fishing derby happening on Badger this year? I can't find any info about it which leads me to believe it's not?

Cant have a derby with catch & release regs on the lake. Besides getting a permit for something like that these days would probably be almost impossible.

Glad to hear Badger is doing fine. Caught my biggest pike yet there. Couldn't even land it on those rocks without hurting it (or me lol).

Was starting to wonder about the walleye, never been able too catch one there.

Yes there are a few Ling in Badger...this 65 Cm Ling came out of there in 2015. I've caught the odd one in the past so I went down to have a look. McGregor has been slow for me and I needed a change of scenery so I thought I'd give it a shot....off to Keho later this week to give it a try.
