A few trips to Badger this week resulted in some surprises. Are there walleye in Badger? Yes, yes there are.
Day 1 in the south was filled with 30+ pike in the 4-6 pound class and at sunset this 23" walleye came screaming in from the deep to smash a glow jig tipped with sucker belly.
Day 2 in the North was more of the same. Lots of 4-6 pound pike (we stopped counting after 20). At about 9 am this beauty came skulking along the bottom and took a glow spoon tipped with sucker belly.
All in all it was a fun 2 days. We saw a few whites on camera and lost 2, red and black wire worms got the most interest but action was slow. We Had one pike that had to be pushing 20 pounds try and eat the Camera, it was massive. No Ling ( our primary Target)
My new personal best for Badger Walleye (24"). I've caught a few walleye in this lake but never this size.
If your taking the kids out for the Family day weekend and are looking for some steady catch and release action I'd give Badger a consideration.
The ice is thick enough to drive on 20+ inches and jigging action in 5-12 FOW produced more fish than deadstick presentations. Good Luck!
Note: all fish were released as per regs
