Can you clarify points #2 & #3 please? Seems be a contradiction. Thanks.

I think as good as our intentions are, if not formalised, we may appear to be poachers

The only reason why i see TU being involved before WU is that TU actually has the resources to move fish. they do it every year. Trout get trapped in the water diversions from the bow and every year TU along withthe cadets of calgary go through the irrigations canals, school the fish, stun them with an electrical shock, pic them up and transport them. Walleye unlimited, to my knowledge, has never had to do anything like this and is a much smaller organization than TU

2-you cant start a recovery mission without srd's approval....you have no right to touch those fish
3-someone has to chit or get off the pot and see first hand if this is true....why talk recovery if there is nothing to recover.....a bunch of us want to see for our own eyes

Trout unlimited is a canada wide association. Walleye Unlimited is a local non profit organization.

Braun. Post to aof. Tu just phoned me. Dfo and env canada and srd have moved several thousand fish and are continuing on a daily basis. They also said not to go as there are numerous people on hand already and they are collecting data and dont want the numbers fudged. Poachers beware.

Thanks Gus/Braun.
Good news under the circumstances. Sound like they got an out of control situation under control. Too bad it had to be this way though. There'll be a learning experience in this somewhere.
Chub's offline which leads me to supect he's on his way. Anyone able to contact him to update him?

in all seriousness though this is a very interesting story. It would be cool to see that many fish in one spot. Its good to see that people are already on top of it and working on saving those fish. It would have been a devastating blow to that lake had something like this gone unnoticed.
now what are we going to talk about.........

Glad I spoke to them before I left as I would having hoofin it home right into a snow storm. They were suprised word got out and were equally happy that a brigade may have gone to action. I may post TU's Fish Rescue Form to a thread or have mods sticky it so that in the future everyone will be rescuers via a trusted organisation.

great idea. there are a lot more guys that have not posted on this thread that would jump in if need be at the drop of a hat. no mater the body of water or the species of fish....with the exception of "Big Mouth" bass, but we don't need to worry bout them.

for those that know that area well.....my question is how did and why did so many fish exit Travers through that pipe.
Ive spent many days for 40 years at that spillway and have seen alot of fish roll down that spillway but never a eye.

i just got a call from C.O. ...He has just visited the site and reports the rescue mission is under way. A screen is in place to stop the fish migration. He says its 99 percent whitefish....1 pike....NO WALLEYE.....they will monitor for poachers

I was talking to Brid (<?) last year at Badger and they were directed to close the outflow at 5' higher than other years. Not sure about release valves on Travers or what the water mgmt strategy is down thar that'away. OH!!! Most of the fish are Whitefish. I'll give them a ring in a few weeks to get some numbers on what was what.

in our long discussion we also talked about a few regs.......that spillway is deemed a fish way and no fishing is allowed within 25 yards of the wing dams
srd is doing sample studies on the whitefish

Is this not a normal happening, when they open the dam gates and let a little water down the chute , these fish go down stream in the Little Bow river to the Old Man River, Happens every year.

havent seen the gates open in many many years.....water leaves via a pipe
during the winter you could open the gates wide open an not a trickle would pass by
