If their 5 OT games against the best team in the League wore Washington down enough that Pittsburgh can once again destroy Ovie's dream then I'll consider the Leafs to have been useful at least.

The Leafs join Montreal on the golf course. Ottawa and Edmonton likely won't be far behind.

Ha!
It has been cold and snowing everyday here for the past few days; nothing on the ground though. Checked the forecast and it is looking good

EDIT: Don't really care about snow, even it stayed for while, but damn wind has gotta to go.

Leafs are going to be a dangerous team moving forward. No two ways about it.

That's been true since 1967.

I thought they were coming along well. Then I listened to Hockey Night in Canada and learned that they are UNBELIEVABLE and will definitely win the cup next year.

Also that Mike Babcock is the best coach in history. Taking the 30th place team to round one of the playoffs as the second wildcard is WAY better than taking the 29th place team to second in the division and the second round of the playoffs.

Toronto is good. Edmonton prospects are better. However Edmonton has a Draisaitl. Like Australia has a Donk.

The best part about Draisaitl is the leaps and bounds of continued upward improvement he shows. Kid works hard as anyone every off season to improve his game. The difference between his first season to second, and then second season to third has been massive each time. If he continues this trend into his fourth year, he could very well have a 90 point season next year. More if he and McDavid continue to play together, but doubtful on that.

Say what you want, but in the next two or three years, Matthews, Marner and Nylander are going to be quite the trio, especially with Babcock at the helm.

The team nor the fans have anything to hold there head low about. Rebuilding year and they take the best team in the league to game six where 5 out of 6 were taken to overtime. Say what you want but that team is going to be very dangerous in the coming years. The boost to there confidence they got this season are going to make them one hell of a hockey team next season.

Connor mcdavid only playing in 45 games last year might have something to do with it

Hey, during the same period the Leafs had Marner and Nylander. Chose not to play them, incase they were good. The Oil, bad as they were, never purposely tanked like the Leafs did to get the first overall choice. They were just naturally incompetent until Chiarelli and McLellan came along.

Interesting perspective.

Another one: Oilers drafted lots of first overall, and several more first round. All got put into the lineup. Were they ready? Considering the firepower, how did they keep ending up in last place?

Marner and Nylander are allowed to develop. Then they're brought up. They tear up the league.

You say the Oilers never purposely tanked - yet, how many #1 picks did they get?

Just sayin'

Cheers

should trade some of those #1 picks away instead of cashing in on them in the draft

And the oilers wouldn't have been in 29th if mcdavid had played the entire season. Also I find it hard to believe that the Oilers picking in the top 10 in 9 out of the last 10 years( 4 of which were first overall picks) wasn't tanking. they sure did get lucky when the draft balls fell there way in 2015... I couldn't imagine having a guy that gets 100 pts would make Todd McLellans job harder than Mike Babcocks. I do agree about the media coverage though

Believe it or not, but the Oilers management was that bad. Two consecutive GMs who had absolutely no business ever being GMs of an NHL club does that.

Leafs are in excellent shape for the expansion draft. They don't even have to protect their 3 young super stars. It is going to be a tough year for some teams dealing with the expansion draft and a bunch of "no trade clauses"

I think the Leafs are looking and have a lot of potential.
