Default Who else loves Golden Retreivers?

Just getting melancholy after putting our last old girl away at 13.5 years. We've had Goldens for over 35 years now, always had 2 because of where we have lived (coyotes, coyotes, etc.).

I've found they are the most dedicated, loving, easy to take care of dog ever! Anyone else care to share about their Golden Retreivers?

Default Goldens

Another fan here!
Had my first one 20 years ago. Fantastic hunter and retriever, of everything from upland, migratory, muskrats and even one beaver! Cried like a little girl when I had to put her down at 10 yrs old, due to cancer.
Tried a black lab in between, but the chemistry wasn't there for me.
My next golden, which is currently 9 going on 10, was a fantastic family dog for my four kids, but a bit of a late bloomer in the field. She is currently a phenomenal upland dog. Works real close, and easy to read. The perfect "old man's dog" I am told! The age is starting to show a bit, but usually after a good day out in the field, don't we all show our age a bit? We hunt pheasant on local shooting grounds permits for eight months of the year, so she literally gets in hundreds of retrieves a year! Her only downside, is that she refuses to retrieve to anyone but me! Makes for a damn heavy game pouch some days!
My newest golden (#3) is a holy terror on the grandkids, but at just over a year (retrieving chukars at eight weeks) has hundreds of retrieves under her belt. Still a bit tough to read, but we're starting to understand each other. I thank WWBirds for hooking me up with my pup's breeders. His is the brother to my female, and I know he is having the same great luck with his dog as I am experiencing.
My raving is getting a bit long-winded, but I have had nothing but good luck with my Golden experience to date, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for that "all-around" dog.

Default 37 years since I got my first

have had and still have blacks and goldens. Bred blacks yellows and goldens for over 30 years but we always have at least one and usually more goldens around. As Jim says pretty high field trial breeding on this last go round so he still often wears a choker and check cord or leash when small children are around for the first 5 - 10 minutes but has been retrieving since he was not much longer than the bird trap and is over 100 chukars and pheasants in his first year.

Every dog that has lived here has a wooden name plate on their kennel door. Corner fence brace is covered in name plates of our past golden black and yellow friends since 1980.

My brother has one, and it is amazingly good natured - just a big push over. My brothers 4 year old literally rides him and the dog doesnt mind. And yet he can be incredibly protective. Just a really nice dog for a family.

We have one dog, of unknown lineage.
And we frequently care for our neighbors dogs.

Our closest neighbor has four Goldies and I have to agree, they are among the most gentle, intelligent and loyal dogs I've known. We love them and they love us.

Actually, between the two households we have four dogs. The four dogs are loved and welcome at both homes.

My kid brother had a couple of Godens over the years and they were the same as those next door. Great dogs.

The photo below is Christmas with Joe and her children.
Jo, Ginger, Soks and Lia. Soks and Lia were just pups then, this was Christmas before last.
Jo wanted a family photo so I had my camera along for the visit.

Good times!

We have awesome neighbors. A bit west of us is Huntin and his missus. They are dog lovers as well and have two beautiful dogs. A Chocolate Lab male and a Chessi female. We watch those dogs as well, when their folks are away. Great dogs! It says a lot about the owners.

James and Jo have four Goldens.

Christmas with Jo and the Children

This was Ginger's last litter. Jo is talking about breeding her again but with spring planting coming up in a few weeks I'm not sure it's going to happen any time soon.

If you are looking for another Golden, those pups would be as good as you are likely to find.

Let me know if you are interested and I'll have a talk with Jo to see what her plans are.

Thumbs up Golden Retrievers

Never owned one (yet) ... but Goldies are special, for sure!

Someday maybe, I hope

Favourite dog I have owned was a Golden Retriever/Yellow lab. He lived to 13 years. We should be getting some 3/4GR/1/4 hound pups here in the next few weeks if anyone is interested. Mom looks like a lab but is 1/2 retriever and 1/2 hound (so we were told) and neighbours dog is a beautiful GR that came over for a few visits.

And to add another question along the same lines as the OP.

Who doesn't a golden retriever not love to visit?

Wonderful dogs.
