Default pesky rodents

I have noticed this year now that the snow is receding that there is near no meadow vole burrows in the old grass or chew marks all along the bottom of my fruit trees and shrubs. This is the first time ever that I can remember there has been no sign of these critters come spring.I wonder if anyone else has noticed this or is it maybe just in certain regions.I live near Millet.

I have noticed the same last year the front and back yard showed significant signs of mice or what have you. This year nothing

I live south east side of Edmonton

I don't know about voles, but my two cats have entered their "outside mode" and have been bringing several mice to the door daily for the past few weeks. A few chickadees as well lol.
Granted that my home is the only dwelling on the quarter section; essentially I'm under "mouse siege" year around.

IIRC vole populations have a high correlation to snow cover. Less snow this year means the predators can hear them under less snow, I believe.

I noticed that too, after the snow went last spring my yard was really chewed up from them.
There was a lot less snow here (Ft. Assiniboine area) than last year and we had a lot of rain in December.
I think that might have had something to do with it.

Oh Goody:

This might help get my weasels back into the yard.

Maybe some bloody treats are in order.

Low snow means lots of mice.
