Default Stolen firearm section

How difficult would it be to have a stolen firearm section on here where any and all stolen firearms are listed in detail ?
Make ,model , caliber ser number ,general area and date of loss.,
Then anyone can access this list and keep an eye open for these guns?

It wouldnt be a bad idea. The problem I found over the years is that the majority of gun owners do not have decent photos or record the serial numbers of their stolen guns.

When someone posts on here that his mat black Mossberg 500 was stolen from his house and he cant list any identifying characters like a serial number or a photo showing a distinct mark. Then how are we supposed to know.

I think the majority of these guns end sold privately to gangs and never make it to the web

Like the others I think it would also be a good idea. I just wonder if there may be a downside to this that we are not aware of; lot of criminals out there dreaming up new scams. Perhaps the Mods could set up a Sticky were we could all go and post; no matter what the item is. As for information, see OP's quote, make the information for posting mandatory fields to be filled out; this will get away from partial info.

50,000 people watching out for stuff is far better than 5 or ten individuals.

Why bother - it's already available for stolen firearms - and more - for the entire country to access.

Might not be a bad idea to check out some of your own "questionable" purchases.

Well you may know that but there are many who likely don,t , So that is the reason! It was only a suggestion . You have to realize not everyone rotates on the same plane.as far as questioning your own purchases , i can,t see that going to well for anyone! If in doubt don,t!

Why someone would not take pictures of their firearms or record the serial numbers is beyond me! I have multiple records and pictures in multiple places in case something goes missing. My stuff ain't high quality custom stuff either... but if it does get stolen, I want my arse covered... Part of that means having good pictures of the firearm, serial numbers and descriptions to report the items stolen so it doesn't come back on me!

The problem with most gun owners is that, they will only take picture of the guns as it when they about to sell it and then delete it after all.

Has an inventory section for firearms by caliber and gauge and even handguns and you can even match reload results to specific firearms. I have not seen a place for pictures but I have my own gun picture files for each one in My Pictures.

Well the way I see it it would benefit the ones that do care and take down info on their guns , at least they have a chance perhaps? , anyone who comes up with excuses not to do it have no chance at all , like buying loto tickets? No ticket no reward!

I think it's a great idea to have a Lost or Stolen sticky thread.

I used to never think much about it until I investigated a tool theft from a construction company. These guys build multi million dollar houses as well as movie sets. Their records were horrible. part numbers instead of serial numbers, matched to the wrong tool, pictures so poor you couldn't tell if you were looking at a skill saw or a router. After that I decided I was never going to let myself get into that situation. I sat down and itemized everything I own by make model serial number, and took pictures of the item and serial numbers. I may not get my stuff back if it ever gets stolen, but it isn't going to be because I didn't have detailed records!

While a stolen gun section certainly a good idea in theory, in practice not so much. I think our forum is too small to be of any good. Plus there are too many online forums for gun enuthiasts to frequent. Post in one but not the others won't do too much.

I personally have sold a firearm to someone in Newfoundland. You think he would have checked out an Alberta forum on the off chance it was stolen?

I think this forum has the right idea with minimum posts and time on forum before access is granted to the buy and sell section.

Now, a general sticky for lost and found of other items, may be a good idea.
