Default CVR...Dec 26, 2023

Dec 26, 2023

So we came in at the north east end and where the access road meets the lake, has 3ft-4ft of heaving ice. ...The only lake access is to walk on...there is no way a pickup will pass over or around this barrier. This heaving ice is all along the east shore so there is no short-cutting either.

I don't know what the guys who leave their shacks on the ice, will do until the ice heaves are removed.

I hope the county can get a machine in to knock that jagged ice barrier down.....Please...

The day was great; 8+C temp, clear sky.

I measured the ice at 11" and it was good ice. The ice is skating rink smooth so boot spikes are a must and fishermen need to figure out a way to secure your gear if a wind comes up....Yes it is that smooth; zero snow.

The fishing was ok, not great but a beauty day regardless.....the fish look healthy.

What stood out for me was the activity of the loud ice movement...Every 10 seconds it was booming, cracking, hissing and whatever else it was doing.

I was BSing with my buddy about the noise and then another loud crack came and you could see the cracking ice race 6" in front of my toe.....wowww that is a first for me.....

Anyway.....good luck.

Sorry Crude;
I was at the north east portion, I can't help you. There has to be a contact person on AO that can shed some light?

I wonder if the ice has heaved at the marina as bad as the north end?

I am curious to hear what the ice depth is after this cold snap?

Before the cold snap people measured 11" ...

Its gonna be pretty thick now. I fish the north end almost exclusively so driving on is not a big deal for me. I live 10 minutes down a gravel road from the north end. By far the closest for me. Not looking forward to drilling 20 inches with my 8" hand auger...

Great day, lots of sun little to no wind...
Ice measured 24" at the north east end.
Lightly covered snow so you don't require boot spikes.

The fish looked good and healthy.

Good luck.

Beauty day.
Ice measured a constant 24" at the north end.
1/3 of the snow is gone and maybe more over the last few days. Cleats are a must and so is sun screen....

About 1/2" - 1" of water in spots on top.

The fish were healthy and put on a good fight.

Was strong enough to drive on last Sunday. There were some snow drifts but the two cars I saw didn't have any issues. Ice was at least 20''. This was at the campground. Fishing was slow for me. Lots of small perch but they didn't bite. Only saw one pike that was more interested in my camera than my lures.

I will be out on the north arm either tomorrow or Sunday. Can post a report from the lake assuming I can get a signal...

Default CVR ice conditions

February 21, 2024

The road in, to access the NE portion was perfect; leaving at days end was a little soupy, but still, easily manageable.

The access onto the ice is, like it has been for years. Thanks to the guys who knocked down that ice heave.

The ice remains @ a solid 24" with about 3" to 6" of snow on the surface. No boot/ice spikes were necessary.

+7C weather, no wind, blue sky...perfect day...Sunglasses and sun screen were a must.

Fishing was slow but but overall a good day.

Good luck

It wasn't locked a few weeks ago and I don't see why would not be open now.

We counted 13 RV trailers on the ice where we were fishing.....I am sure there were more south of us, that we didn't see. We were at the north east end.
