That was outrageous. The person who took the Dolphin out of water should be blame.

I read that article and can't believe how selfie-ish those idiots were. Then leaving it on the beach to die......Stake them down on the beach at low tide and leave.

The picture below this sickening article would have been my answer to the fools that did this, let the lion run the beach and then let's see the selfies!

I can just picture the dolphins waiting a week or two then start snatching up babies out of mother's arms wading in the surf.

Dur, dum, dur, dum, dur, dum, dur, dum, dur, dum, dur, dum.........

Although I do not agree with the behaviour. I read today the the baby dolphin was already dead when the it was removed from the ocean.

There are ALWAYS two sides even three sides to a story, for sure!

That's what I was wondering. A live, healthy baby dolphin can't be easy to catch.

It was already dead and by the looks of the enclosed video the fella tried to revive and release it. I'm not sure who wants to take a selfie with a dead dolphin but whatever.....

Let's put it in perspective.

Likely not a single person intended for the dolphin to die. It was the unintended consequences of everyone wanting to see or touch or experience being near the dolphin that was in a cumulative basis the cause.

The interest most likely stems from a positive desire to show how much they like wildlife.

People that care less or hate wildlife likely kept sun tanning.

Think of it this way. Everyone impacts wildlife. People stop to watch bighorns and bears along roads. Habituates them to people and vehicles. People feed birds which changes behaviour. People feed ground squirrels, chipmunks, pikas and tree squirrels. People rescue baby animals all the time not knowing the momma was nearby and left them there on purpose.

One person feeding a ground squirrel bread in banff one day...not super serious. People feeding all season...likely could kill them. If people don't know better...they need to be shone nicely. Should the one person die who fed a squirrel bread? Should all of them tourists die? Or should those people get some education on the matter?

In the end if this was a healthy dolphin that was too bad. Education at that location and locally is far better than vilifying these people.

For those that think these people were dumb...you just need to look around at the range of intelligence we see everyday.

When it comes to science...most people never take a university level course on biology or zoology.

Therefore...people should consider toning down the killing these people comments.

Good point Sundance, It,s always important to look at the total picture before a fellow makes a comment or decision on any thing you see or hear. Like the proverb says, Believe non of what you hear and half of what you see. But again we are only human and we tend to judge at first glance, I know I do and I should not . But it,s hard to be objective when it,s something you feel strongly about or if its close to ones heart!

I know what you mean. It is concerning that the whole environmental movement is trending more and more towards the fanatical side of act first...think later. Using string hateful language. Guys like you who care and are open minded to intent and thoughtful contemplation is awesome.

Thanks for the post.

I don't believe anything on the news not saying it didn't happen but people jump to conclusions way to quick. I have first hand experience with the bs the news puts up and how they can twist a story.

My wife and I has a similar experience with a seal pup in Victoria. One fellow happened to notice a seal pup that had been left by Mom in amongst the drift pile on the beach. I was in the same location as this fellow when he starts to yell at his family about the pup. Yes it took all of 2 minutes for a crowd of 20-30 people to gather within a couple of feet of this pup. I called F&W, then started to try to get the people to leave the vicinity of the pup. I was ignored. I could see the excitement on these people's faces, almost a mob mentality, and quite disturbing. F&W thankfully showed up in about 5 minutes as they were just down the road. Turns out this is a very common occurrence, people just don't understand. F&W is constantly educating on the island.
