Default DYI Flybox Insert?

Sooo... I found and old fly box I would like to use again, but the inserts that hold the flys are missing. Any ideas on what i can scrounge up that might work? No squishing of hackles is of prime importance.

Thanks

Ive seen wool used, but i dont like it because dry hackles tend to get bent/squished...

go to Michael's craft supplies and look for the crafter's foam. It's sold in single sheets of about 8 1/2 X 11 in size. many colours, but I only mention this to get you in the right area. there should also be felt sheets and glue and glitter all around you. Lovely!

Anyway, mixed in with the very thin sheets (usually only about 1mm thick) you will find black and white sheets of the same material (high density foam) in 5mm thickness. This is perfect for fly boxes. you'll spend about $1.50 per sheet and get enough for a double sided box.

Lots of ways to do it. Let me know if you want a detailed explanation of how I use it.

the thin stuff is perfect for fly tying, too.

Where are you located?? I might have something you could use.
I think it's a yoga mat I picked up on the road last year.
If it would work for you, I could let you have about 2 ft x 9in piece.
