Default Moose Hunting in Sask

I was wondering if any Alberta residents here have had experience moose hunting in Sask. I have a friend who is willing to take me this fall. I glanced at Sask's hunting regs and it said that Canadian residents (non-sask residents) can only hunt moose with a guide.

Any way to get around this? Anyone have similar experiences?

Your Saskatchewan freind is going to get you both in a lot of do-do. Canadian non-residents can only hunt bear and whitetail deer as far as big game is concerned and this year you have to apply for whitetail in a specific zone, although they have said everyone will get drawn unless that changes. They aparantly are reviewing the draw proposals until may 8th or 9th. You can not hunt moose, mule-deer, elk or antelope as a non sask resident and I have heard that antelope may even be closed for sask residents this year. As stated above you can hire an outfitter.

If you buy a Rez hunt, your "tags" will be good for anything that is found there. Moose, elk, deer whatever.

JJ -- If you are referring to a ' native reserve ' liscence you can only hunt on that reserve and you would be VERY hard pressed to find moose and elk on reserve land ( alive anyway ). This would be worse and less fair chase than a high fence shoot .

You ( or we ) can not just get a guiding licence and we don't have a hunter host program. You must go with the outfitter that you buy the " package " with, that is licence, guide, acomodation etc.

There are piles of large native reserves in SK with PILES of elk/moose on them (among other game).

Nekaneet First Nation
Kinistin Saulteaux Nation
James Smith Cree Nation
Saulteaux First Nation
Montreal Lake Cree Nation
Big Island Lake Cree Nation
Cumberland House Cree Nation
Red Earth Cree Nation
Canoe Lake Cree Nation

To name a few. I have hunted or have friends that hunt on these mentioned reservations and let me tell you....In some of the remote areas of these large land holdings there are MASSIVE animals.
