Thumbs up My sons first archery success!

Nothing major, but with things being slow on the hunting side of things on here right now I figured I would post (plus im a proud papa tonight, lol). Bought my kid a real bow a little while ago, and he has been shooting at least 40-50 arrows a day and is pretty dialed at 10 and 15yds, so we decided to put his skills to the test tonight. He ended up hitting the first gopher he shot at, and went 3 for 4 on opportunities this eve! Best part is he loved it and even though we had to "work" for each one, he declined when I offered to pull out his .223 and just start smoking them. After this evening, he stated that he would probably never rifle hunt, and wants to use his bow for everything because "I like getting close and watching them up close"....pretty big commitment for a 7 year old, LOL!

This was the first of what im sure will be a long list of archery kills.

That's awesome to see! Always good to have another bowhunter join the ranks. Can't wait for a few more years to start teaching my son as well.

Great pic of your son. If he is liking shooting the bow that much he would probably love a fishing attachment for his bow.

That's awesome 300!

^As for Auger above, never too young to start. My boy was 2 when he was walking the range with me and pulling the release trigger when I was settled on the target.... "I hit it Daddy" were some of the sweetest words spoken. At 3 he had his own red fibreglass "longbow".... Some of the most memorable times.

That's a pretty cool idea. My son is 2 right now. Thought about grabbing one of the cabelas toy bows for his next birthday.

First time I ever shot a gopher with a bow i was in my early 20's and I was tickled spitless too...... Good On You for getting him out there enjoying the hunt. I know exactly how he feels.......The Pic shows it all.

Thanks again everyone, it sure is a blast getting out with the next generation. I'd rather watch a kid hunt than hunt myself any day of the week now, the excitement they have is so contagious, I love it, haha!

Thanks buddy, and anyone who knows my kid can attest to the fact that elk are his dream animal, lol. He will watch elk hunting shows with me anytime, and when we talk about what he wants to do for his 12th bday hunt (its in early oct so he knows that year we will be hunting for sure on his bday) all he ever says is elk hunting, lol.

I can't wait for the day to bugle in a bull with him behind the bow or rifle....he's been with me when I arrowed a bull moose at 7yds, but will say to anyone who asks that hearing elk bugle without even seeing them is more exciting, and I havent even been close to getting an arrow in one when he's been with me, haha.

:-)

First thing I hunted was a ground hog with my fiberglass bow.
Then bow fishing, then deer.

Most all the hunting I've done in the last 20+ years has been bow only but
do miss my early years of taking the side by side for walks after pheasant and
grouse. I loved those times easy walks in the woods and fields, no pressure.
And to pull off a double on birds was simply lucky and a heck of a lot of fun.

Every thing has a place and a time, you can't shoot birds with flu flu's and do
a double, need a shotgun. :-)

Don't hesitate to tell your son it's ok to spend time in both worlds.
Bow and Gun.

His dedication to bow hunt and get close to game is a sign of a true honest
hunter wanting clean kills and fair chase (challenge and responsibility).
A well balanced person.

Small game hunting for ducks, pheasants, grouse etc. with a shotgun is another world all it's own.

He shouldn't miss out on that without trying it once or twice. :-)
