Thumbs up Pigeon Lake Report

One word. Fantastic!

The best ice fishing I have had there in years. Seen tons and caught my limit of whites mixed with the odd walleye and pike. Made for a very nice outing. I was very surprised to see how big the whites were on average. This was my third time out on Pigeon and I have done well every time out. FYI, this was the only time I kept any for the smoke house. I believe in Carma so the first two outings were strictly C&R.

Ice was getting near 18" which made using the hand auger a bit tough. Hard packed snow drifts every now and then but it was pretty easy trucking on the lake itself.

What day were you there fishing?
What time of day?
Any hints on what you were using for a hook?

Congratulations Penner! That sounds like an awesome day out. Limiting out on whites is a huge feat in my books. Glad to hear some good reports coming from Pigeon. Sounds encouraging.

Well it took many many hard days of non-productive fishing over the years to figure these Whites out on Pigeon so I'm not all that willing to share all of my new found secrets. I have been fishing there since I was a kid and I feel I've paid my dues and now I'm being rewarded by the fishing gods. Hopefully that’s all right with your guys.

But I'm always willing to offer some advise/hints. We were catching them in about 6ft- 8ft of water only over sandy bottom. I heard a rumour that Whites like to eat snails, clams, and such. Trying to imitate that may be a real good idea . And be mobile. Try one spot for 20mins, if you see jack squat, move to the next spot. Go light. Anything thicker than 6lb test and forget it.

Morning and evening were best but we caught them throughout the day.

That's cool and totally understandable.
To the other guys here, don't set your heart on 6'-8' On Saturday my neighbor caught 9 Whites in less than 20 minutes and he was in 14 feet of water.
