308 Convert
I am thinking of converting my Remi 700 SPS 308 to a 6.5 CM. Anyone done this? was it worth it and recommendations on who to do it ? Average cost ?
TIA

Simple job, just a barrel fit and chamber. Everything else remains the same. Any gunsmith. Barrel blank costs can vary greatly depending on what you want. Expect $500 for the barrel then another $300 for the work. Then you might as well do a bedding job while you are at it. Oh, and a trigger, stock upgrade, quality optic mounts etc... it never ends haha

Just buy one instead of changing the other one over for close to the cost of just buying another. Then you will have two guns

Completely agree. Buy the 6.5, sell the 308 and net it will cost you $200 bucks. Doing it your way will be well over a grand.

Do IT !!!!!!
DOOO IT!!!!
(SAY IT WITH A ARNY VOICE)
Semi customs are so much fun. You have the perfect action to do this project. Get a kreiger barrel, if your in the Calgary area have Henry Remple chamber it for you. The other stuff like stocks and other upgrades can come.
I have a 308 and have a 6.5x47. I am able to hit with much higher frequency at longer distances with the 6.5 mm. Ballistics dont lie. The recoil is noticably different as well.
If this is just a hunting rig that you only shoot 10-15 rounds threw a year then I wouldnt bother. A 308 will put meat in the freezer every bit as well or better than the 6.5 However If you like shooting targets then dont even hesitate at doing it.

You can sell yours and buy another factory job, or with the cost of what it takes to do it, buy another factory rifle, with no optics, or close to it. But it will be another stock rifle. In the majority of cases factory barrels shoot pretty good but custom barrels are generally better. It will be fit for your rifle, to your spec. Your twist, your length, your crown, your rifling (sometimes). It will all equate to a better shooting rifle and that’s what we’re all looking for.

It could be cost effective to purchase another as opposed to rebarreling.
But life in the gun world isn't always driven by logic, that's why it can become an addiction.
On the flip side you would have an action that can accommodate several different configurations?
As for cost post #2 seems reasonable, who to go to dependents on you and the communication with the gunsmith when you find one?
This is where i go off base, you're a man ? do it and read post#2,3,6,7, and number eight!!!!
