Default Solvents for cleaning firearms

I've started using a paint thinner for cleaning my rifles, I find it much faster, and cheaper than a small bottle of Hoppes. I flush it out with wd40 and lube with 3 in 1 oil, then put the rifle away till the next outing.

Carb cleaner works good but probably not the best thing.
