The grouse is likely going to cost more then the deer!

Not sure about Roe in Scotland, but I have a friend who goes once or twice year for Red. Have you decided where you are going already DB? Where will you be in Scotland?

I could find out some info/recommendations for you, but not until the middle of Jan when my friend returns from South Africa.

I have a wood carving artist friend in England who fishes and hunts in Scotland. sounds quite funny compared to what we are used to for the game keeper insists that gentlemen dress accordingly. They don't do it for ducks but it is quite common to see him in tweed jacket shirt and tie for pheasant, red stag or even fishing on one of the traditional rivers for salmon or trout. A gentlemans sport in the British Isles so since only the wealthy or titled could afford to hunt you must dress the part. Apparently Prince Charles himself was instrumental in not requiring the top button on the dress shirt be done up for a rather large friend of his could not do his up so the rule was relaxed in his honor. Kilts? Na don't want that mental image on any of you guys hunting.

I will look forward to that info we have time on our side thanks for the offer to help out it is appreciated.

Just to elaborate a bit on this story. DaJimmers mom and I agreed that we would take him to Scotland as a Grad present last summer. He asked if he could work for the year and save some spending money we agreed. So then he starts talking hunting and I loose it I have never hunter foreign soil and if you my boy think I am paying think again I checked out some costs and decided that even for me a hunt was out of the question . Well DaJimmer let passion be the guide and started to do some research well where there is a will there is a way and since we will be there anyway he found the right people to help him with his dream. The hunt costs is based on trophy quality more or less a game management hunt so while you will see no record book Stag or Buck he will get to hunt and that is cool. We will appreciate any good advice help or direction from anyone who can offer and will certainly share anything we learn. One example is Roe Deer Stalk hunt for 130 L per day for game management that is cheep hunting.

Again Thanks for any info oh and fishing info is fine to

Oh and as for the Kilt

I hunted hill stags in Scotland last September/October. One of the more difficult hunts I've ever been on. Torrential rain, gale force winds, blanketing 'mist' (which also was wet), scapering up/down/over/accross water logged 'peat' hills/mountains, cascading down waterfalls (told the Gillie it was the fastest way down, he now thinks all Canadains are crazy), belly crawling through the above mentioned peat bogs...loved every minute of it. Going back in 2012 to hunt sika, red stag and roe.

And to add to Cat's suggestion of gentleman's attire.

A set of LeChameau boots.

Good prices on LeChameau boots in Canada right now.

Could there also be a gun fitting involved on this trip?

Hunted in Scotland... I forgot exactly when. On an pensinsula West of Glasgow. Shot a mediocre roe buck and a small stag. This was a DIY hunt, very challenging, but loads of fun! I'd do it again in a heart beat, given time and funds.

No need to worry too much about atire I don't think. As long as it is waterproof and comfortable.

What areas will you be visiting DB? It will help me to get some useful information out of my friend.

For some reason (probably because the country is full of whacko animal rights activists) there is not a lot of information available online about hunting (and fishing) opportunities in the UK. I know a fellow who is the deer stalker on the largest estate in SW England, and you can no find out anything about hunting with him on the Internet. It appears most opportunities are available only through word of mouth.
